Nik & AlQuabir

Characteristics:

  • They have a bilateral symmetry
  • Nematodes are very tiny roundworms that are often parasitic in nature, meaning that they live off of other living organisms
  • Nematodes have thread-like, cylindrical bodies, and the name of the worm derives from the Greek word for thread
  • Their bodies are also non-segmented, unlike earthworms and has no circulatory system (no blood system)

Other types of Nematodes:

  • One type is known as the hookworm, which has a hooklike mouthpart that attaches itself to the wall of the gut, puncturing the blood vessels and feeding on the blood
  • Another type is the C. Elegan, which is a free-living, transparent nematode, about 1 mm in length, that lives in temperate soil environments
  • The "C" stands for Caenorhabditis
  • The Pinworm is a common intestinal parasite that is found in humans
