Dec. 19-23 Newsletter
This week on campus the sights and sounds of holiday projects/activities filled us with joy and excitement. The Elementary 'Winter Wonderland" looks amazing with work samples/projects providing all who walk the halls with a chance to learn about holidays around the world. Our 5th grade Safety Patrol students had a blast last night with a gift exchange and dinner. Middle School students completed exams each morning, but still got into the holiday spirit with Spanish caroling with Mrs. Baez, the Student Government CAN-struction project & Candy-grams, News Crew/Student Ambassador hot chocolate/cookie holiday party, and various classroom activities.
Classes participated in some outstanding STEM challenges with week! A few highlights include Mrs. Kudia's students disguising Botley the robot as a reindeer with the task of building a sleigh that was able to pull the most presents. They also coded Botley to visit countries on the map in correct sequence as they answered questions. 5th grade participated in an Arctic Stem Challenge creating snowball shooters to keep polar bears from attacking, and building towers to see over the avalanche. 7th grade had some excitement in the lab as they dissected a frog, starfish, earthworm, grasshopper, fish and crayfish!
Thanks to your canned food donations, the Student Government was able to collect around 300 cans to donate to SeaGlass Church's Food Pantry which serves the Apollo Beach/Southshore community. SeaGlass was grateful for the generosity of our student body as they will now be stocked to provide food items to those in need.
Mrs. Zollars, School Social Worker, collaborated with Waters Church to provide holiday gifts to families that were identified to be in need. Our families were incredibly thankful for assistance during a time that is so joyful for most, but financially stressful for some. In addition, at Thanksgiving time, Waters Church donated 25 food baskets to our families in need of support during the holidays. We are so thankful to have developed such a loving, considerate, and supportive community partnership. Thank you, Waters Church!
A HUGE thank you to Tari Carpenter, our data processor, for facilitating York's very first successful Angel Tree. York was able to bless 10 angels this year, in hopes of adding more in the future years. Thank you to teachers and staff who donated to have Tari's vision come to life. In addition, thank you to Mr. Lopez, middle school teacher, who received gifts from The Mayor's Hispanic Heritage Committee and provided them to families in need this year. Your teamwork, passion and dedication, and kindness is truly appreciated!!
