Physical and Chemical Smore
Physical and chemical properties and changes
A physical property is a characteristic or characteristics that describes an object. (color, volume, shine, density, odor, taste, texture, hardness)
A physical property of the sock is that it is black.
Some examples of a physical property is an objects odor like cinnamon's smell is strong, it could be it's color like the cat is orange, or another example could be texture like the brick was rough.
A chemical property is a property that can only be seen when one thing interacts with another thing. You must change the substance to find out a chemical property.
A chemical property of this match is that it is flammable.
Examples of a chemical property are the ability to burn, rust, tarnish, and toxicity. Like paper can burn and metal can rust.
A physical change is a change that alters the appearance of something but doesn't change what it is. Some examples are cutting paper, cutting an orange, butter melted on toast, or clay is molded into a new shape.
Example: This pencil has been broken but it is still a pencil. Therefor it went through a physical change.
Even if you just write or paint on something it is a physical change.
The other type of change is chemical. A chemical change is a change that creates a different substance from the original substances. Indicators of these changes are changes in color, odor, temperature, production of a gas, or production of a solid.
Examples: burning something, rust, compounds broken down, or compound change into other components.
Like when milk goes sour or when you fry an egg. Also when bread becomes toast these are all chemical changes.
Or when a firework goes off. That is a chemical change.
