WE LOVE TREES!!

MARCH 20,2015

THIS WEEK

Dear Families,

We just love our tree study unit! We can't get enough of it; we are learning so much!

Through our investigations your children are learning about the characteristics of trees and the role they play in our environment. We have talked about the creatures that inhabit trees and the foods trees produce. They had so many questions regarding which fuits and vegetables grow on trees, plants (ground), if they had seeds, etc This is giving us an investigation to focus on ( we are all eager to learn more about it).

The kids are describing their colors, smells and textures. They are very aware that when trees are planted and when they grow from seeds, they are very small. They grow taller every year, just as we do. We know from reading about trees and planting that trees need soil, sunlight and water to grow.

This week they created their own personal chicka chicka boom boom trees! Besides the wonderful experience it brought to them,we reviewed our letter sound knowledge.

SONG OF THE WEEK

I AM STURDY OAK TREE

Tune: Mary had a little lamb

I'm a sturdy oak tree, oak tree, oak tree.

I'm a sturdy oak tree, swaying in the wind.

I'm a bushy gray squirrel, gray squirrel, gray squirrel

I'm a bushy gray squirrel munching on some nuts

I'm a noisy blue bird, blue bird,

I'm a noisy bluebird, sitting on a branch

I'm a busy bee,busy bee, busy bee

I'm a busy bee buzzing round the hive

SOME MATH THROUGH TREE NUMBER PUZZLES

TIP OF THE WEEK

Use modeling clay to create a sculputure of an insect or other animal that lives in trees.

WRITING ( Ask them what they are writing and be amazed by the way they have increased their vocabulary)

NEXT WEEK

I am so excited about the new interest your children have brought up. We are very eager to learn which fruits and vegetables grow on trees? Do all of them have a seed? We will be looking at different seeds and your child will have to try to guess if it belongs to a fruit or vegetable. We will be planting these seeds and will take the proper care of them, as we compare and monitor their growth.
