Wayland Union Middle School
We are here for you!
April 21, 2020
Dear Wayland Union Middle School Families:
Greetings! We hope that you are all doing well and staying healthy! Our staff has been extremely busy preparing for the first week of distance learning, and we appreciate all of your support and patience as we begin to adapt to this new educational format. Please know that we miss our students and think about them all the time!
Please encourage your child(ren) to actively participate in all of the virtual learning opportunities that have been developed by our staff. According to the guidelines set forth by the district, students are expected to work 30 minutes per subject per day on their coursework. We also encourage students to take time to read, exercise, and engage in enrichment opportunities. Parents and students should contact their teachers if they have questions related to assignments or online coursework.
The WUMS Grading Expectations/Guidelines are here for your reference. This is not an easy time for you or your child. It is possible that your child may attempt to avoid work or act out during this time; however, please encourage your child to participate in school to the best of his/her ability on a daily basis. We have high expectations for our students regardless of the educational format (face to face or virtual instruction). Students should be logging in to their school email, Google classroom, or other websites as directed by their teachers in their weekly “Learning at Home” letter. We are here to help support both parents and students during this Covid-19 crisis.
In addition, attendance will be taken by their teachers for each class period every Friday beginning this Friday, April 24, 2020. Students will be marked absent if they have not turned in a weekly assignment (to Google Classroom, Schoology, IXL,etc.), attended an optional Zoom meeting, or emailed their teachers during the week leading up to that date. WUMS Staff will call households next week to any students who are not actively participating in their classes.
This correspondence includes a tremendous amount of useful information. Please take some time to review the different resources that are available to students and families at this time. We are all in this together, and we will get through this! Say ”Hello” to your students for me! Lastly, I wanted you to know that you are doing a GREAT JOB balancing your role as a parent and now teacher! Do the best you can and we will too : )
