Cyclone Central
Friday Folder 12-15-2017
Dear Center Families and Friends,
Center Elementary has so much to celebrate! During the first semester of the school year, our students and staff pulled together to give back to the community in numerous ways. We raised over $650 for United Way, gathered over 50 sets of mittens for our Kindergarten mitten tree, put together 50 stockings for those serving our country, collected over $650 for Toys for Tots, and raised $1,600 in our school store to be donated to families in need. Thank you to everyone who helped to organize these events, and to the many community members who participated and made donations. It is wonderful to see how much the Center community has gone above and beyond to live out our school motto, Center Cyclones CARE. We look forward to reflecting on our accomplishments together during our Cyclones CARE assembly on December 20th.
On behalf of the entire Center Elementary staff, we would like to thank all of our Center family members for helping to make the first semester such a success! We wish all of our Center families and friends a wonderful holiday season and a new year filled with peace, joy, and memorable celebrations!

Should the school event be one where it may be difficult not to include other students, such as a concert, play, or athletic event, we ask that no pictures are emailed, texted, posted to social media and/or online networking media, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, Skype, blogs, Instagram, without the expressed written consent of all students parents/guardians in the photograph.
Holiday Gifts to Staff Members
As the holiday season approaches, we know many students and parents may be thinking about giving teachers and/or staff members a gift. Please know that our staff members are very appreciative of any cards, gifts, or notes of cheer that may be given to them, but this is not necessary. Spending our days interacting and learning with your children is a valued gift to us all! If a gift is selected, please know that all staff members are required to follow the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators. In accordance with this code, educators may not accept gifts valuing more than $25.
Thank you for all that you do throughout the entire year to recognize our staff for their hard work and dedication and for all that you do to support your child’s learning! We wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season filled with laughter, happy memories, and fun for all!

Audition Notice
Mayfield elementary and middle school students are invited to audition for the children’s chorus of Mayfield’s spring musical! Mayfield High School will produce The Little Mermaid April 12-15 and April 20-22, directed by Larry Braun.
The children’s chorus is limited to 20 students in grades K-8 who attend Center, Gates Mills, Lander, and Millridge elementary schools and Mayfield Middle School. Mrs. Becky Hall, music teacher at Center and Gates Mills, will prepare the children for the production. Interested in trying out? Here are the details:
Auditions will be held at Center Elementary on Thursday, January 11 at 5:00 PM in the multi-purpose room. All auditioning children must be accompanied by a parent for the duration of the audition process. This is not a drop-off event. Children will learn a short chorus from the musical and sing in small groups. Children will also sing Happy Birthday individually without piano accompaniment. After a child has sung both, he or she will be free to leave. Results will be sent by email to all who audition, and the list will be posted on Mrs. Hall’s website.
Rehearsals will be Tuesday evenings from 5:00-6:00 PM beginning January 30 and other dates and times to be announced as the production nears. Children must be able to attend all Tuesday evening rehearsals as well as rehearsals at the High School April 8-11 and April 18. Each accepted child will be assigned to either the weekend of April 12-15 or April 20-22 and must be present at every performance for their assigned weekend.
Questions about auditioning or about the musical? Please contact Mrs. Hall at RHall@MayfieldSchools.org or 440-995-7412.
