ROADS
Dear parents,
Our new study Roads has sparked children’s interest in these essential pathways that unite our community. We have begun the week discussing the road to school. After looking at a video of the route, children were encouraged to talk about their observations of this frequently used road. A route was defined as “the path you take to travel from one place to another.” Our focus question “What do we know about roads?” generated ideas which were integrated in a class chart. We were able to explore these concepts on a walk around our parking lot were we noticed traffic signs, speed bumps, sidewalks, and even different types of parking spaces (for disabled people, for expecting mothers). Children were reminded about road safety, using the sidewalk or maintaining a safe distance to explore the roads.
We have also explored maps. A map was defined as “a kind of drawing that shows where things are. When we travel, we use maps to tell us which roads to take to get where we want to go.” We even worked in making our own classroom map.
We finalized the week with the focus question “What do we want to find out about roads?” These questions will guide our study to our student’s special interests.
Coming up: Art Show Week! Children have been creating beautiful masterpieces these past few week. We hope you can join us in this wonderful activity to raise funds for the “Make a Wish” foundation.
Enjoy the long weekend,
PK3 Team
