Field Day Reminders from Nurse Johnson
Dear Isbell Parents,
Field Day is coming up on May 26th! This is an exciting annual tradition at Isbell. We will have a great day of fun and games!
It will be hot out, and the kids will be outside most of the day. Please be sure you send your child to school with a water bottle to help them stay hydrated. Please
send them with a towel too. There will be events involving water, and the kids WILL get wet!
There are a few things you need to be aware of regarding
seasonal allergies, sunscreen and asthma.
Please take a moment to review this information to help your child have a great field day!
JSEASONAL ALLERGIES:
The students will be outside playing in the grass all day. If your child has seasonal allergies, please administer their allergy medicine to them before school on Field Day. FISD does not provide allergy medication, so there is no allergy medication available in the clinic.
SUNSCREEN:
Please remember to put sunscreen on your child BEFORE they come to school on Field Day. That way you know they’ve got it on and that it was well-applied. FISD considers sunscreen to be a medication, so it can’t be sent to school without you completing the necessary paperwork. FISD does not provide sunscreen for students, and teachers may not apply sunscreen to students. Students may not bring sunscreen to school without this paperwork. You are welcome to come to Field Day, and you may bring and apply sunscreen to your own child as needed.
ASTHMA:
If your child has asthma and it is possible that they will need asthma medication during Field Day, please be aware of the following:
Per FISD Policy, all asthma medications are to be kept in the clinic and will be administered by the nurse. Students are NOT allowed to carry ANY medication at school unless their doctor has completed a specific form which must also be signed by the parents, nurse and principal.
If your child has an inhaler, it will need to have the Rx label attached either to the box it came in or the inhaler itself. Please also send in your child’s spacer if they have one. If you no longer have the label or box, your pharmacy will be happy to print a new label for you for free.
If your child uses nebulized asthma medication, it has to have the Rx label on the box and I will need the mask, chamber and tubing as well. I have a nebulizer machine here in the clinic that we can use. If you no longer have the label or box, your pharmacy will be happy to print a new label for you for free.
If your child’s doctor has already given you an Asthma Action Plan, I will gladly accept a copy of that, or make a copy to keep in the clinic if you bring it in to me. At the absolute minimum I need the “Parent Request for Medication Administration at School” form before I am able to administer asthma medication to your child at school. Having an action plan from your child’s doctor as well is highly encouraged.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I’m always happy to help!
J
