Rotation
Definition:
a transformation that turns a figure around a point called the center of rotation
Function Rule: (counterclockwise rotations)
90 degree rotation from origin- (x,y) : (-y,x)
180 degree rotation from origin- (x,y) : (-x,-y)
270 degree rotation from origin- (x,y) : (y,-x)
*examples below are for counterclockwise rotations
90 degree rotation
(x,y) | (-y,x)
(-4,-4) (4,-4)
(-6,-1) (1,-6)
(-2,-1) 1,-2)
180 degree rotation
(x,y) | (-x,-y)
(2,4) (-2,-4)
(6,4) (-6,-4)
(4,0) (-4,0)
270 degree rotation
(x,y) | (y,-x)
(-3,2) (2,3)
(-6,2) (2,6)
(-6,5) (5,6)
Function Rule: (clockwise rotations)
90 degree rotation from origin- (x,y) : (y,-x)
180 degree rotation from origin- (x,y) : (-x,-y)
270 degree rotation from origin- (x,y) : (-y,x)
