Principal's Updates
Well done to the entire PJP Community for a great start to the New Year! Staff and students alike are looking forward to a well-earned midterm break. It has been great to see the mornings getting brighter and indeed a grand stretch in the evenings too!
It has been a busy half term so far and we are looking forward to First Confessions for our second class students and the Ceremony of Light for our sixth class students in preparation for their Confirmations.
A big thank you to our Amber Flag committee under the guidance of Ms. Burke, Ms. O’Donnellan and Ms. Clinton; our first Ever Crazy Hair Day for Pieta House was a huge success with over €1000 raised. Please take a look at our school website to see photos of the great day!
World Book Day takes place on Thursday March 3rd. This is the week after the midterm break. The children and staff are encouraged to dress up as their favourite character.
We also look forward to Seachtain na Gaeilge which will take place from the 7th to the 16th March. We will have a Lá Glas on Wednesday 16th where children will be encouraged to wear something green.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and healthy midterm break!
Ms. Markey
Take a look at our new school Orchard
This week had an exciting delivery of some very special trees as part of the DCs for Bees Orchards in the Community project.

We received ten different trees including apple, pear and plum trees.
Orchards In The Community is part of the DCs for Bees initiative. Orchards play a key role in providing an early food source for our struggling bees as they emerge from winter. To help protect the bees and increase pollination, they are planting in excess of 1,000 mixed fruit orchards all over Ireland.

Malahide’s Got Talent Contestant - Max Murphy, Ms O’Brien’s 4th Class
It was Sunday, the day of the Malahide’s Got Talent final. It was around three o’clock and I was super excited to go on the stage in front of three hundred people watching me. A few of my friends were watching me. Their names were Tadgh, Laith and Stephen and also my whole family. So then two of my friends came over, Laith and Tadgh. We were going to meet Stephen at the Grand Hotel. I had to be there at four thirty on the dot. When I got there, I had to sit in a room with all the sixteen contestants for two hours until the show started. There were three judges. I was the fourth person to go on stage. When it was my turn to go on stage, I was a bit nervous. But then a person told me that I should just shake it off, so I felt much better. So, then I went on stage to perform my own version of A Million Dreams by Pink. At the end the three hundred people voted for who was the winner of Malahide’s Got Talent. At the end I didn’t get any money, but some random person came up to me and gave me fifty euro. I really enjoyed it and I will do it again next year and hope for the best.

Senior Boys GAA Team Update
PJPs Senior Boys Gaelic Football Team played their second match in Cumann na mBunscol. They just won their first match last week. They were very confident coming into the match.
They left the school a few minutes early. They got there at about 2:30 and they started their warmup. The game kicked off at 3:00. They started the game strong and Steven Joyce got a point within minutes. Following that, Dónal Early scored two points. They scored a few more points and our defense were solid. They didn’t give them a chance to score. The last kick of the game, Phoenix Cronin scored a goal. Mr Freeman gave us a half time talk and we were back on the pitch. Aidan Haverty scored a brilliant point in the second half. St. Fiachras scored two quick points and a goal. Dónal Early scored another two points and Sam Glackin scored an amazing point. To end the game, Finn Kelly scored a fabulous point (at the end of the game). An amazing effort from PJP. Final score PJP 2:13 to St Fiachras 1:2

Senior Girls GAA Update
This year, girls from PJP have a school GAA team for the first time since 2019 due to Covid-19. Ms McDaid & Ms Conneely are managing the team this year. They held trials on Sonesta to see what girls to pick for the team. They picked 21 girls to be on the team. The girls had two weeks of training to prepare for their matches.
The girls’ first match was against St Marnocks N.S. in Broomfield. At the match, the weather was mild and it was a good day for football. They played very well and had a great victory. The final score was 12-13 to 0-01.
The next match they played was against Scoil Áine, Raheny. Some fixtures were called off due to the storm so they didn’t know if the match was going to go ahead but in the end, the weather was quite good. The girls traveled to Raheny and played brilliantly once again. At the final whistle the score was 7-9 to 00.
When the girls come back from their mid-term break, they will have two more matches to play in their group – one against St. Helens and the other against St. Oliver Plunketts. If the girls win their group, they will have a chance to play in Parnell Park and win the league.

Grandparents Day
Ms O'Brien's Fourth class interviewed their Grandparents as part of Catholic schools’ week. They asked their grandparents about their favourite subjects in school, favourite foods and their favourite school games.
The replies were from as far away as Mongolia, Croatia and Poland and they were very interesting to read.
Most of the grandparents were Irish.
They all had one thing in common.
They all loved and enjoyed their grandchildren.
