SCHOOL GOAL: Staying Calm - Using a GROWTH MINDSET
This week, we have noticed most our learners are all coming in with positive 'growth mindsets'! This is awesome! If you have a negative/fixed mindset you can 'grow this mindset' in to a positive mindset, by growing it or 'stretching' it.
Here are some ideas for having a 'growth mindset':
1. Acknowledge and embrace imperfections - we are not all perfect!
2. View challenges as opportunities
3. Try different learning strategies
4. Have a 'bubblegum brain' that can be stretched or grown!
5. Replace the word “failing” with the word “learning.”
6. Be the best you can be - that is enough
7. Value the process over the end result
8. Have a sense of purpose.
9. Celebrate growth with others.
10. We want growth over speed (quality vs speed)
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
It has been another great week at Vogeltown with very settled classes and learners.
It is great to see how well the nation is doing in regards to Covid-19, we are well on our way to elimination - this is great news! Hopefully, as a country, we will move to even more normality soon.
As we move through the Alert levels and get closer to Level 1, we can slowly bring some of our regular programmes back to Vogeltown. One of the first things we are doing next week is to have a whole school assembly - this has not happened since Week 5 of Term 1! We are also in the process of planning for Term 3, with many events that were supposed to be this term moving to Term 3. Some examples are Dads and Lads breakfast, mid-winter swim, Inter-school sport, Whanau hui and Home and School meeting - just to name a few.
This week we want to continue to say thanks for your understanding in regards to our school site entries. We must continue to 'contact trace' anyone who comes on to our sites, so until we do not have to follow this process, we will continue to stop adults entering the school sites. There is one exception to this rule and that is for our parents of Room 5 - our new entrant class that has begun this week, these parents can come in to the office area, sign in/out and enter Rm 5.
We have a new system at school for signing and signing out. This system is called VISTAB. Any visitor to our site must sign in/out on this system. This helps us keep track of who is on both schools sites at any point during the day. This system is also for our kids, if they arrive late, then they will sign in on this system. Once we allow adults back on site, you will have to use this system as well to sign in or out your child. Basically, a child can not leave the school without that child's teacher having a printed out slip from the offices to say they have been signed out or in and by whom.
Our Te Reo focus for this week has been:
Asking the question: Homai ki ahau te........
Give to me your.....
Homai ki ahau to mahi - Give to me your work
Homai ki ahau to kutikuti - Give to me your scissors
Thanks whanau

NEW MULTI-SPORT TURF
The class reps spoke about what they liked about the turf, then we had the Whanau leaders cut a ribbon (actually 2 ribbons) along with our youngest student currently at Vogeltown from Room 5 - Isla Fox (and her brothers).
We then had each syndicate in turns, go around the outside of the turf and dance away - the best dancers received whanau points for their whanau!
After lunch we had a Staff vs Students game of basketball. The students played really well and dominated parts of the game. In the end the teachers won 22 - 12. The MVP for the teachers was 'Flamboyant Fleming' (Miss Fleming). The students MVP was Kace Raven!
We hope everyone can enjoy the new turf - including our Vogeltown community after hours and in the weekends!
The school - social distancing!

MR O'S FRIENDLY REMINDERS
1) The school grounds are closed. We are only using the senior site for learning currently. If you need to come on to the senior site, please wait at the gate, ring the school cell number and we will come to meet you. Cell - 021753680
2) Remember, we are trying to limit the number of adults that come on to the school sites, as this is the most 'likely' way that Covid will come in to the school settings.
