Seahorse Strong
April was a busy month for SGE! We launched our month with the PTO Spring Family Fun Night, our 3rd and 4th graders performed their musical concerts for family and friends, our Garden Committee put together an incredible Earth Day Celebration, we ended with our Seahorse of the Month Celebration for the character trait of Fairness, and our 5th graders visited their Middle Schools. We sure know how to balance the fun and hard work!
We are looking forward to celebrating our teachers the first week of this month as we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week!
Thank you for ALL you do to support our students, teachers, and school!

School Counselor’s Corner
We ended April by celebrating our Students of the Month for Fairness. Congratulations to these seahorses! We just love seeing those Student of the Month magnets around the town. 3rd-5th Graders learned all about test preparation success as we head into FSA testing. Ask your student about 4 key strategies we learned to help keep us calm and confident before a test: positive self-talk, adequate sleep, a nutritious breakfast, and taking deep breaths. I know our seahorses are ready to ROCK the tests!! Our May character education focus is integrity which really encompasses all of the character traits: doing the right thing even when no one is watching. We are working as a school to earn a school-wide PBIS Day at the end of the year. The goal is to earn 150 positive referrals during this last quarter. We are at 96! Will we earn our Journey to Greatness: Destination Unknown Celebration?! Stay tuned!
Thanks for reading!

Earth Day 2022
Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe
It is difficult to believe that the end of the 2021-2022 school year is almost here. This is also the time of year when student behavior can “flare up” and interfere with the learning of peers in the classroom. I can assure you that our teachers remain diligent with redirecting and extinguishing interruptive behaviors, reminding students of the PBIS expectations in place at our school. While there are situations that require administrator attention and involvement, our teachers continually go above and beyond to implementeffective classroom management strategies that facilitate student learning and meaningful interactions.
Some students experience difficulties on the playground during recess with peers; pushing or becoming angry when things don’t quite go their way. While we continually remind students to be respectful, responsible and safe, they sometimes act impulsively and need gentle reminders about appropriate behavior. This is where our amazing team of assistants and office staff demonstrate their commitment to student safety and happiness. As they supervise our students each day on the playground, the well-being of children remains a priority. Our support staff continuously remind children of the procedures and behavioral expectations during recess time with peers. The importance of interacting appropriately with others is a life lesson they promote each and every day.
I am incredibly thankful for our instructional staff and support staff for all they do to promote positive student behavior and encourage life-long learning!

Literacy News with Mrs. Jarrett
It is hard to believe it is May already and this week will be the Fourth and Fifth Grade students time to show ALL they have been learning by applying their literacy knowledge and mathematical skills to the FSA. SGE students will shine bright when they use their strategies they have been learning ALL year. The biggest strategy to remember is to ALWAYS go back to the text to prove one’s answer. When reading the questions, PLEASE remind your child to read carefully especially if the question is asking for more than one answer (select 2, select 3, select all of the answers that support the question, etc.). It is important for our students to go to bed early on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights the next few weeks. SGE Seahorses will work hard and do their best!!
It is with a heavy heart to let you know this will be my last “Literacy News”. After 34 years of being a CCPS educator, I have made the decision to retire at the end of this year. Being a Seahorse, the past nine years has blessed my life greatly. What makes Seagate great is YOU, the families and support you pour into our school. I am honored to have been part of this A+ school community.

Media Center News from Ms. Barr
It’s hard to believe the school year is almost over! I have had a wonderful year getting to know your students and helping them find books they love. As the school year comes to a close, some exciting things are going to happen in the media center over the summer…we are getting new carpet AND new paint! Due to these renovations, the media center will be closing on May 11th. All books will be due back on May 18th. We will be sending notices home after May 18th to get back any lingering books.
Interested in having your kiddo read over the summer? The Collier County Public Library has a terrific summer reading program that starts June 4th and runs through July 30th. The summer reading program is for all age groups, including adults, so you can get in on the fun right along with your student! More information will be available on the CCPL website, https://www.collierlibrary.org/, on May 1st.
Technology update: for those of you that have students in Kindergarten and First Grade, their laptops will be collected before the end of the year. Those students in grades 2-5 will be taking their laptops home with them this summer. If your student has a laptop that is damaged, please have them notify their teacher so we can try to get it repaired before the end of the year.
Thank you all for making me feel so welcome at Sea Gate this year. I’m excited to plan more fun and adventures for next year! Have a fantastic summer!

PTO Recap:
We just had our last in person meeting at school for the year. It feels great to be walking the halls, in the classrooms, going on field trips, and hosting on campus events like the spring family fun night and our Earth Day celebration. I would like to thank the SGE community of parents, teachers, administrators, and staff members who have donated their time, money, energy, and ideas toward efforts of the PTO during the 2022- 2023 school year. I am overwhelmed with gratitude of the level of involvement our community gives to make every learning day a fun learning day at Sea Gate Elementary.
I need to take a moment to give special thanks to the parents who held executive board and chairperson positions this year because without you we couldn't have had such an amazing year. We have already opened the volunteer sign up for the next school year. Many of our volunteers are switching roles next year leaving several of our clubs and events looking for new chairs. Please do not hesitate to create an account on our PTO website so you can keep up to date and receive all PTO newsletters, emails, and flyers.
Thank you to all our Parent Volunteers!!!
