Working through the Covid-19 State of Emergency

The State of Emergency

With our current state of uncertainty, we might be experiencing higher levels of stress and anxiety. It is extremely common for individuals to have anxiety with the unknown. As adults, we are experiencing these emotions too. How can we create a positive environment for our youth in such an uncertain state?

We can do this as a community and working together. We may not be able to physically be together as we move to an offsite platform; however, staying connected now means "online." We can connect with friends and loved ones through phone, video chats, texting and email.

Things we can do:

  • Hand washing for 20 seconds (sing the ABC's)
  • Deep Breaths
  • Physical activity
  • Drink lots of water
  • Look for credible medical information, like the CDC
  • Take a break from the news or social media if no new information is available
  • Create a schedule, so a routine is best (see below)
  • Avoid traveling and large gatherings

Children and teens react to what they see from the adults around them. When parents/guardians talk about COVID-19 calmly and confidently, they can provide the best support for their children.
