Safety Drills and Procedures
Today, for a short period of time, we needed to enact a secure building due to a medical situation occurring near our school grounds. We returned to normal practices shortly after medical personnel left the area.
Self-Certification Reminder
Tomorrow, October 1st, is a required self-certification day. Parents need to use ParentVUE to self-certify that students coming on campus are free of COVID-like symptoms. When you log in to ParentVUE, you will see a screen asking you to self-certify that your child is symptom free. If this step is not completed and your child is at school, a health services staff member will call you to discuss your child's health status.
The current transmission level is HIGH which requires monthly self-certification. Self-certification will only show up in ParentVUE on a school day. Please self-certify your child on October 1, 2021.
Please note, if you are using the ParentVUE app to self-certify, you need to make sure you are using the most updated version and are logged in. If you have any difficulties with the app, please use the desktop version to complete self-certification.
Self-certification does not mean you are saying your child is symptom free for an entire month, but rather that you will monitor your child’s health closely every day and keep them home when they are not feeling well. You can report your child's absence using ParentVUE after completing the self-certification process.
Coming Soon: Cougar Class of the Week
Students will have opportunity to earn Cougar Pride tickets for positive behaviors exhibited in the classroom, in the hallways, at lunch, at recess, and at their Specials' classes. Cougar Pride tickets will be collected and counted and we will announce our winning Cougar Class each Friday.
TOMORROW, we will announce our first winning class for the 21-22 school year! Be on the lookout for the winning class to be shared in this newsletter next week. And, be sure to ask your Clow Cougar(s) who the winning class was this week!
Important Message - TikTok Challenges
We have been made aware that there are more Tik Tok challenges circulating around challenges at school. September’s Tik Tok challenge was all about students vandalizing bathrooms and destroying school property. October’s new challenge is termed “smack a staff member on the backside.” Police are warning students these viral TikTok’s are much more than just challenges. They are criminal offenses as some of these challenges are bordering on assault.
Please speak with your student about the serious nature of these challenges and help educate them that these are not appropriate for school. Any student who chooses to carry out any of these challenges at school will be subject to school and police consequences. If your child has any information on these occurrences at school, please encourage them to speak to me or another trusted adult at school.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter!
The Book Fair is Coming!
Our Scholastic Book Fair will be next week! We invite you to stock up on some favorites for great reading. Please take a look at this link to see what's available and find a little something for all the readers in your household! All online and in-person purchases support our school. Thank you for your consideration!

News from the LMC - Birthday Books
Are you looking for a great way to celebrate your child’s birthday at school? Whether your child has already had a birthday this school year, or it is coming up...Clow LMC has the answer! You can donate a book to Clow’s LMC to honor your student AND help build our library collection! Here are two ways to participate:
1. Go to Amazon.com. Use the following link to access our wishlist:
You will find books to add to our library collection to purchase for the LMC. The book(s) will be sent directly to our school from Amazon. It's that easy!
2. Send an email to nicole_fader@ipsd.org letting me know your student is able to pick a new book from the birthday book cart in our library. I will generate a $15.00 fee in PushCoin. On or around the date of your child’s birthday, your student will be able to come to the LMC and select a book! (Summer birthdays will be celebrated at the end of the school year.)
With either choice, I will add your student’s picture inside the front cover of the book commemorating the donation and hang his/her picture on the wall of the LMC. Thank you for considering this program! If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact me @ nicole_fader@ipsd.org.
Clow Schoolbag Website
If you have not had a chance to check out our Clow Schoolbag website, this is a great resource for many curricular extensions and tie-ins.
It is housed on our Clow homepage (look for the pencil icon) or you can also find it on the LMC homepage.
Health & Safety Reminders
- Remember to send your student(s) with a mask every day. We recommend sending in extra masks in your child's backpack, in the event they need a spare. We have disposable masks available should a student need one.
- Please do not send your student to school when he/she is sick. If you are unsure, please consider the COVID self-certification questions. If you would have to answer YES to any question on the certification, please do not send the student to school.
- If your child is ill, please do not send any siblings (living in the same household) to school (in any grade level). Contact the health office of the school your symptomatic student attends and ask for further instructions.
- If your child requires a COVID test or if you have questions related to illness or testing, please contact our school nurse, Rhonda Parks - rhonda_parks@ipsd.org or 630-428-6079. She is glad to assist.
