Picture Yourself Growing in Second Grade
Welcome, I am GLAD you are here!
Welcome! Even as I soak up the last remaining days of summer with my family, I am gearing up for an exciting, fresh school year. The smell of freshly sharpened pencils and squeaky-clean desks make me happy. If you are like me, you are looking forward to having a schedule, routines, and earlier bed times at home! I want to welcome you to the Room 11 family. I feel incredibly lucky to have this opportunity to spend the coming months with your child as we head on this journey together. The most important thing is I am glad you are here. I look forward to working together to make this the best educational experience for your child.
School starts on Wednesday, August 29th. The first week of school can be filled with excitement, nerves, and even stress. I will be sure to do my best to ease any worries your child may have about Second Grade! To make the transition easier, here are a few things to remember:
* We will have a snack everyday (even on the first two days). Please pack or have your child pack a light, healthy snack that is separate from the lunchbox! Our lunch boxes leave our classroom in the morning and will be stored in the Cafeteria so they will not be accessible to us. You can pack a snack in a separate bag, pouch, or in your child's backpack.
* Please let me know if your child will be eating breakfast everyday. It will help me manage the morning routines and make sure all of my students get what they need.
*If your child is buying lunch with cash, please send in the money in an envelope or ziplock bag with your child's name and i.d. number.
* If possible, please have your child bring school supplies with them on the first day of school. When children feel prepared, it will ease many worries! You can find a school supply list here. Make sure you look for the 2nd Grade list!
In Second Grade, we are going to learn and grow! Of course we will write stories, acquire new math skills, and conduct science experiments, but the majority of our day will be spent reading! We will read, read, and read some more. I am passionate about teaching reading, but more importantly, a love of reading! I look forward to Back to School night on September 12th to give you more detailed information about our curriculum.
In addition to academics, we spend a lot of time learning the unwritten curriculum.
This year, I will teach your child what it means to be a student. What does being a student look like? Sound like? Expected behaviors, study and work habits, and citizenship are the keys to being a successful student. Hopefully, your child will be a life-long learner so this is a very important job.
For now, enjoy the rest of summer. Soak up the last of the summer rays, catch the last of the lightening bugs, roast the last of the marshmallows, and feel excited for a wonderful year ahead.
Sincerely,
Kristin Seymour
Meet the Teacher
Who is Mrs. Seymour?
I was born in Syracuse, NY (Go Orange!), but we quickly moved to South Jersey. I was raised in Collingswood, NJ, and I attended Collingswood High School. In high school, I was a three sport athlete and enjoyed being involved in everything. After graduating from Collingswood High School, I moved on to Rutgers University in New Brunswick where I played lacrosse. Being a Division 1 athlete, taught me so many valuable lessons that I use in the classroom every day. Hard work, time management, and teamwork are just a few of the skills I took from the field into the classroom and that I instill in my students each day. Playing lacrosse in college gave me so many opportunities, including traveling all over the country playing the sport that I love! RU Rah Rah!
I was lucky enough to get a job coaching lacrosse at Rutgers New Brunswick while I continued my education. I entered the Graduate School of Education, and I couldn't wait to graduate and pursue my passion...teaching. Upon graduating from the GSE with my Masters Degree in teaching, I returned to South Jersey. I began my teaching career in Haddonfield where I taught First Grade for 8 years. Now, I am entering my second year teaching with the Wedgwood family, and my tenth year teaching! I couldn't be happier. I come to work everyday excited and eager to work with children. My goal is to ignite active learners, empower students to take responsibility for their learning, inspire courage to grow, and cultivate curiosity.
I am married to a wonderful man, David. Together, we are raising our 2 beautiful girls, Kailyn and Keira, and our son Wyatt. They are so much fun and they keep me on my toes! Of course, I can't forget Teddy. He is our sweet, spunky pup that gets into a TON of trouble.
I love being with my family, spending time in Ocean City, reading and running. I am lucky enough to stay involved in athletics, and I am currently an assistant lacrosse coach at Rutgers Camden! Go Scarlet Raptors!
That is just a little about me! I hope to learn more about all of your families in the coming days.
