Information About the FEB Science Expo
Students should be completing those final touches on their projects as they are due to school the week of 3/13. Here is what you need to know if your child submitted a form indicating they are participating in this wonderful event.
If your child submitted the Google form to express intention to participate and has since decided not to submit a science project for this year's Science Expo, please email Jami Sheeky (jsheeky@ryeneck.org) as soon as possible.
Third Grade Scientist Information
- Third graders should bring all of their materials to school on Tuesday, March 14.
- They will be sharing their Science Expo projects with their third grade peers on Wednesday, March 15. A schedule for families to visit on that day will be shared next week.
- For the evening event on Thursday, March 16, students and families will be allowed to visit the Science Expo in the Auditorium from 5:30- 6:00 pm. This is an informal gathering to acknowledge and recognize their work with other third grade families. All third grade students and families must leave the Auditorium at 6:00 pm.
Fourth & Fifth Grade Scientist Information
- Fourth and fifth grade students regardless of their projects being judged should bring all of their materials to school on Wednesday, March 15.
- Non-judged projects will be shared on Thursday, March 16 prior to the judged project presentations. Judged projects are shared in a staggered manner. First, fourth grade students spend some time with the judges being interviewed, and then immediately following, fifth grade judged projects. A schedule is shared internally only.
- In the afternoon, teachers are invited to bring their classes to the Auditorium and students share their projects with classmates.
- For the evening portion of the event, ALL fourth and fifth grade scientists are asked to gather in the FEB Auditorium at 6:15 pm on Thursday, March 16. At around 6:30 pm, the qualifying projects are announced. All non-qualifying families are then asked to leave as the Partners in Science have to meet with the qualifying scientists for a debrief.
Important Reminders
New Attendance Procedure
- If your child is going to be absent, please email the main office at alaychak@ryeneck.org or call 914-777-4600.
- If your child is reported absent by his/her classroom teacher, and you have not called the office, you will be notified via the automated system to verify the absence.
- In case of severe, contagious disease, pediculosis (head lice), or prolonged illnesses, please notify the school nurse. It is our procedure that the nurse notifies parents of children in the class regarding exposure to a contagious disease.
- For COVID procedures, please refer to the district’s 2022-23 Operation Plan.
- Students experiencing a fever must be fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of medicine before returning to school
- If your child becomes ill in school and needs to be sent home, the nurse will notify you at the emergency phone number provided. For this reason, it is important for the school to have parents’ work numbers/cell numbers, as well as an additional one or two emergency numbers of neighbors or close relatives.
- It is important that children arrive at school in time for the opening bell between 8:35 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. Arriving late (8:50 a.m.) after morning routines and instruction have started is disconcerting to a child and disruptive to the class. Plan to give your child a smooth beginning to his/her day by scheduling ample time for early morning procedures.
- If you need to remove your child from school for any reason during the school day, please email or call the main office first.
Teacher Webpages
Have questions about what your child is learning in school? If the answer is yes, you can always take a look at the teacher webpages for all of the units of study in mathematics, reading, writing, science, and social studies. Our Special Area teachers have them, too!

RULES FOR LOCKER DECORATING
Bellows loves to recognize and celebrate students, especially on their birthdays. We do ask that you adhere to the following guidelines when asking to decorate a child's locker:
- The office staff must be notified at least 24 hours ahead of time. Please email April and/or Jami during school hours to let them know, and include the names of 1-3 students decorating. (Only one parent needs to email.) alaychak@ryeneck.org or jsheeky@ryeneck.org Please do not email Mr. Scarantino directly.
- In the instance that we have emails for two (or more) groups of students to decorate one student’s locker, only the group in the first email received will be allowed to decorate.
- Students can decorate starting at 8:20 am, or after school, from 3:15 to 3:30. After school, students must be accompanied by a parent
- Maximum of 3 students decorating per locker
- NO BALLOONS (they set off the sprinklers)
- Students can decorate the outside of lockers only; students (or parents) can not open another student’s locker at any time
- Candy and sweet treats included in the decorations should be limited. Just what may fit on the outside of the locker without being excessive
- Please keep in mind, lockers are small, and decorations must be able to fit without limiting the function of the locker and/or touching the adjacent lockers
- Students who celebrate birthdays over the Summer will be invited to decorate at the end of June.
