Message from Principal Hickox

Dear Huffman families,

As our first semester comes to an end, I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a most joyous winter holiday break. However your family celebrates, I hope that you are able to slow down and enjoy time together.

As I reflect on our first semester, I am once again so thankful for our community. From our hard working teachers and staff, to our PTO, to the countless volunteers that help us out each day, Huffman is truly a special place.

Enjoy the next few weeks off from school and we look forward to seeing our students back on Monday, January 3rd!

As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or celebrations to share, please feel free to contact me anytime.

Molly Hickox, Principal

Huffman Elementary School

December 17th: No school access

The district has designated Friday, December 17 as a telework day for all staff. This means that our school building will not be open for families or students to stop by if needed. We will be doing an announcement at the end of the day on Thursday to remind students to take everything they will need over break home with them.

Report Cards

Second quarter report cards will be available to view online in Q ParentConnect on Tuesday, January 4th. We will not be sending home printed copies unless a parent specifically requests one. Please call our main office if you would like a paper copy sent home with your child. If you need help accessing your account online, you can request your pin and password through the ASD website under Familes/Q ParentConnection/Retrieve PIN and Password.

One change for second quarter is that for 4th and 5th graders, there will not be an academic grade for science and social studies. The district has made that mark optional, as we are really focusing our efforts this year on core reading and math instruction. This doesn't mean that we aren't teaching science and social studies, but not all teachers are taking academic grades for these activities. All students will still receive an effort grade in these subjects.

Winter Benchmark Assessment Results

MAP Growth and FastBridge Benchmark reading and math scores will be available to parents on December 24th in Q ParentConnect. If you have questions about your student's scores, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher.

NAEP Testing for 4th Graders

Please see the attached letter that was already sent to all 4th grade families regarding NAEP testing. Huffman was chosen to participate in this assessment this year, which is the National Assessment of Educational Progress, also known as the Nation's Report Card. This assessment will be administered to 4th graders only on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

Teacher Assistant Position Available!

We are still looking for a Kindergarten Teacher's Assistant for Mrs. Carlson's classroom. This is a 5.5 hours a day position. Please call or email Principal Hickox at or 907-742-5650 for more information if you are interested. We would love to have you join our team, and we will provide the training necessary to be successful.
