Virtual Learning Academy Newsletter

April 2021

Dear VLA Families,

I hope this email finds you well. I have some updates regarding the 2021-2022 school year. If you are interested in continuing with the Virtual Learning Academy, we will continue to utilize Calvert within the Edmentum platform. There have been some changes to the program highlighted below. I also included the Elementary VLA handbook for you to review. There are 3 pages that need to be completed to secure your placement in VLA.

  • Students must attend 3 mandatory sessions each week

  • If your child is an English Language Learner, he/she must also attend a daily ELD class

  • Weekly samples must be compiled by parent and submitted to the Supervising Teacher after each learning period outlined in the handbook

  • Instructional minutes will be signed off by the Learning Guide and submitted to the Supervising Teacher after each learning period outlined in the handbook

  • The Learning Guide will continue to serve as the primary day-to-day teacher, providing direct instruction using Calvert’s step-by-step curriculum and teaching notes

  • Supplementary ELA and Math workbooks will be provided for students by GUSD.

GUSD is holding an Elementary Informational Night next Tuesday, May 4th at 6pm. Please join us if you are interested in returning to VLA. Click HERE for the flyer.

Mandatory District Assessments

Each Spring, every 3rd-5th grade student in California is administered a state assessment (CAASPP) in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Districts were given flexibility with this requirement and is allowed to submit a District Assessment instead of the CAASP. It is very important that students complete the assessments listed below during the month of May.

Grade K: ESGI

Grade 1: F&P ELA and ESGI Math

Grade 2: 5 STAR Reading and Math

Please email your Supervising Teacher directly if you have questions about these mandatory assessments.

Our promotion will be on the last day of school. Ms.Casey has been working hard on the logistics. She has been in communication with you directly regarding the details. More information is coming.
