Be the Best YOU at Grandview!!!
October is a big month at Grandview
October is a big month for families. There are lots of big events that we are looking forward to having you all attend. Please see below on all the information about Homecoming game, the parade, Fall Festival, field trips and Band information.
Though another big topic that is part of this month is October is Bullying Prevention Month. Instead of focusing on bullying, I will be focusing on Kindness this month. Kindness is one of the most significant contributors to positive school climate. Being kind makes others happy, makes you feel good, and helps prevent bullying. The other reason why I want to focus on kindness is that I believe the most overused and misused word in education is the word Bullying. Parents believe if their child was picked on, they were bullied. In my 14 years in education, I have seen two bullies. I have met mean kids and I have met rude kids and kids who made a bad choice in the heat of the moment, but those students are not bullies. That is why I want to focus on kindness. If kids are being kind, then rude and mean kids turn into kind kids. I always refer to the below poster when I think about bullying. I also do not take bullying lightly, but be careful how we use this word. Rude and mean kids deserve consequences, but bullying is a completely different issue that requires intensive problem solving and protocol within Grandview. Remember to look for all of the ways we want to help support our students to be kind and please reach out to me should you need more information about bullying. A great resource to bullying is to visit the site https://www.stopbullying.gov.
I look forward to seeing you at all of these exciting events this month!!

Morning Back Door
If you are a GSRP parent, please do not come into the building until after 8:30. If the GSRP parents are coming in earlier than 8:30, it interrupts the traffic flow of the morning drop-off as it is not safe having people walk through the traffic in the back of the school.
News from the Music Room
Choir
4th and 5th Grade Choir will be starting Tuesday 11:25-11:50. The 4th grade and 5th grade noon aides will be picking up the students at music and taking them to recess and to lunch. Please note that this cut into 4th grade's recess, by about 10 minutes Please prepare the kids so that they are aware.
Band
Marshall Music will be at Grandview on October 15th from 12:45-2:45 for instrument fitting and will have their parent meeting at Botsford on Wednesday 24th.
UNICEF
Each student will receive a collection box. The program promotes kids helping kids
Donations go to children around the world, providing nutrition, clean water, etc. This is a great way for students to show KINDNESS to other students.
Fun Run
Collections and donations will be collected for one more week. We have lots of families who have not donated anything. A bag of change is something and helps our school. We appreciate all that have already donated, but we know that there are many families who still have not donated anything. Please help support this big school fundraiser for Grandview!
Student Council Friday's
Student Council Friday's are starting. Students can participate in these fun days by donating $1. Money is for the Holidays and families in need. These days and money are a huge part of the Holiday time shopping we do for our Grandview Families. We have helped over 50 families last year.

October 19th: Gum Day
October 26th: Stuffed Animal Day
Pink Out Store
With the arrival of October Team Gibson/Terpack will be opening the Pink Out Store. Suckers and other items will be sold to raise money for Karmanos Cancer Center. The store will be set up in the main hallway by the office and will be student run. This store will be starting on Tuesday.
Family in Need Assistance
In the office are applications and envelopes for "families in need" to complete for help around the holidays and for other resources. We want to help you and provide assistance to you and to your family. If you are unable to get to the office, please contact the office, myself, or the classroom teachers and we will send the application home with your child. We have applications for Livonia, Farmington Hills and Redford.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
Meetings are underway for both of these great organizations. Girl Scouts will be meeting on Wednesdays and Boy Scouts will be meeting on Mondays at 6:30. Come join the fun!
Transportation Changes
Do not rely on just the office for transportation changes. It is important that you also put it in writing in an email to the teacher. If you alert the teacher and the office, chances are better that the message is delivered accurately. We have so many transportation changes at the end of the day that makes us uneasy that a mistake could occur. Please do not make a change after 3:00!!

Household Survey Form
We are getting their with the schools household survey forms and we need 100% completion!! Please ask your teacher if you need another copy. We are asking that you fill out and sign the Household Information Survey (one per family), which is needed for administrative purposes, not to determine eligibility. This survey allows our school to benefit from various State and Federal supplemental programs, like Title I A, At Risk (31a), Title II A, E- Rate, etc. This survey is critical in determining the amount of money the school receives from a variety of supplemental programs. Programs, such as our Intervention program, including teachers and paraprofessionals and student support coaches could be lost if these surveys are not completed. We are asking that you please complete and submit it as soon as possible, but no later than September 14. All information on the survey submitted is confidential. Without your assistance, the school cannot maximize utilization of available State and Federal funds. I would like them all turned in by THIS FRIDAY!!
Box Tops
Now is the time to turn in all of the Box Tops you have saved over the summer including all of the Back to School Bonus Box Tops. Please send them to school in a baggie and give them to your child’s teacher. The class will the most Box Tops collected will win a prize!
WE ARE LOOKING FOR A BOX TOPS VOLUNTEER!
Please let the office know if you can volunteer your time to count Box Tops. THANK YOU!
