END OF THE WEEK THOUGHTS . . .

We concluded the majority of testing this week and will completely finish next Tuesday with our third graders. Folks have asked . . . "What are your thoughts on how we finished?" My response has been . . . "I am pleased, but not satisfied!" From the many conversations we have already had about our results, I feel you have the same sentiment. We have ended well-- but there are many, many holes that we need to fill. We are trying to support many students who struggle and have come into our school with severe absence issues and deficiencies that need to be addressed. This is just a part of what we do-- whether we like it or not. Many times we are addressing home issues more so than academic issues. Again, it's part of the job and you will find it in every school building.

As the school administrator, I have reflected on it as a "whole." I can see the areas that we need to focus on for next year. I am more knowledgeable of who these kids are. My wheels are turning as to where we need to go and the much deeper conversations we need to have about "our kids." The best part of this is-- you are reflecting as well. I have already heard you say things like, "I know next year I need to . . ." or "Next year I would do ________ differently." I appreciate this!

For me-- there is a great deal to celebrate! You have worked very hard! You have battled and conquered many trying obstacles this year! You have grown professionally! You have continued to support one another and encouraged along the way. You are a remarkable groups of folks and I am proud to serve along side of you! Thank you for what you do! I look forward to 2016-2017!

MY VIEW WHEN I ARRIVED BACK TO SCHOOL WEDNESDAY . . . EAGER FOLKS! :)

FIELD DAY

I completed the schedule for Monday along with a diagram of the field areas that we will be using. Ms. Matthews has created stations for you. These will be manned by our support staff (THANK YOU!). She has included at least 2 activities (and included some extra) that should fill each time slot. Each class is partnered with another-- allowing one class to complete an activity and switch with the other class to complete the second activity. Please make sure that you arrive on time for each station. Students may bring towels, etc. to sit on. We will advertise this through our weekly phone messages and FACEBOOK/TWITTER. If you happen to have a "pop up" tent and can bring it on Monday-- that would be helpful to allow for shaded areas. Lunch will continue as normal for grades PK-2 and grades 3-5 will follow the times on your schedule.

WEDNESDAY AWARDS . . .

For Wednesday's awards . . .

1. Every child should be on stage.

2. If a child did not receive an academic award, then you may recognize them for an end-of-year award received in the classroom . . . acknowledging they received the award previously.

3. Please be on time... PK-2 (8:15) and 3-5 (9:15). Office staff will be available for students who will be checked out early. There will most likely be "high traffic" areas-- keep eyes open and aware of your students.

NC TWCS 2016

I sent you the link through email, but it is attached below. Please take a look at our results. We will discuss these in the summer Leadership meeting and at our opening faculty meeting. Dr. Wilson (Walter Johnson) shared this view of the report with me... I like how the information is presented.

GRADE LEVEL CHAIRS/SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT TEAM . . .

Next week, I will send out a GOOGLE voting document to select your grade level chair or area representative. This individual will also serve on the School Improvement Team. One area that was low on the NC TWCS was the question about our School Improvement Team members being elected (75.9 %). This will serve as our election.
