SOME FOODS IN GRAINS GROUP INCLUDE
SUB GROUPS
Whole Grains: Contain all parts of the grain.
Refined Grains: They remove the Bran and the Germ.
WHAT IS AN OUNCES
Quantities: 1 slice of Bread, 1cup of cereal, 1/2 cup of rice.
NUTRIENTS
Grains include fiber, B vitamins and minerals such as iron and magnesium.
FOOD LABELS
Things to look for when wanting whole grains: Brown rice, Oatmeal, Whole rye, Whole wheat, rolled oats and whole-grain corn.
Tips: Look for added sugars such as (high fructose corn syrup, honey, syrup) avoid these added sugars. Another tip is color does not indicate whether something is whole grain or not.
HEALTH BENEFITS
Eating whole rains can reduce the risk of heart disease and help with weight management. Consuming foods with fiber is a healthy part of a diet.
