Treaty of Versailles
Treaty of Versailles Main Points
The Treaty of Versailles of 1919 was the peace treaty that was created as a result of the six-month-long Paris Conference which put an official end to World War 1. The treaty was ratified on January 10, 1920 and required that Germany accept responsibility for the war and was thus obliged to pay large amounts of compensation. On January 18, 1919 a peace conference opened in Versailles, France to work on the treaty.
The treaty provided for the creation of the league of Nations, a major goal of the US president. The purpose of the organization was to arbitrate conflicts between nations before they lead to war.
