The Seahawk Scoop

March 29, 2021

Dear Beach Middle Families,

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend. The countdown to Spring Break has begun.

Just a reminder that students will have early dismissal on Friday, April 2. We will begin dismissing walkers and parent pick up students at 1:53. I have attached the adjusted dismissal schedule below. The current grading period will end on April 14th. Students should ensure they get all late and make up work completed this week so as to have a relaxing vacation. We will also have an early dismissal day the week we return (April 14). The same schedule will be followed.

Information regarding SOL's was sent via AlertNow this past week. Please check your email if you haven't yet completed the survey. The survey was only sent to Option 1 students who opted out of SOL's for Term One and all Option 2 students.

Thank you for your continued support of Beach Middle. Have a Super Week!

SCA Elections

The SCA is looking for motivated, reliable, responsible and hardworking leaders to serve as SCA officers for the 2021-2022 school year. Electronic applications to apply are now available here: VBMS SCA Election Packet 2021-2022 and are due on Tuesday, April 13th by 4:30pm. All current 6th and 7th graders are eligible to apply and you do not need to be currently involved with the SCA or have any previous experience! You just need to be a dependable student who is driven to be a role model and a student leader! Please reach out to Mrs. Collins or Mrs. Groves if you have any questions!

I am thrilled to announce that VBMS will be implementing the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) program starting with the 2021-22 school year. This program is designed to support students who may possess a desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard, but may not truly have the opportunity to be college-ready. These are often the students who will be the first in their families to attend college and are from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education. AVID Secondary equips teachers and schools with what they need to help these students succeed on a path to college and career success

Stay tuned for more information on this.

COVID Exposure Reminders

As we begin to transition back to in person learning, it is very important that we be informed of any possible exposure for our students and staff. If anyone in your home tests positive for COVID-19, or exhibits symptoms, please contact our school nurse, Ann James, or me, as soon as possible. It is vital to our return efforts that we have accurate information so that appropriate quarantine protocols are followed. The Self-Screening tool that all staff, students, and visitors should use before entering the school is below. Thank you very much for helping us keep our VBMS community safe and healthy.
