Principal News!
We have had a busy start to our school year! Thank you to everyone for ensuring their student is at school each morning on time. Students can enter the building at 8:50 and we will have them outside after the 3:30pm bell for dismissal.
Please contact the office by 3:15pm if you have a change in the normal pick-up/dismissal routine for your child. We will communicate this information during our end of day announcements. We ask that parents are patient at dismissal and understand it takes time to dismiss 300+ students each day! Our teachers are working hard to ensure student learning and safety each day. From 3:15pm-3:30pm we ask that parents wait outside to meet their child. We are completing end of the day announcements and dismissal procedures.

Notes from Nurse Sandy
Let’s do everything we can to keep our students in school through the flu season AND throughout the school year.
Everyone can help by 1) WASHING YOUR HANDs, and 2) Getting a flu shot for you and your kids.
· WHO: Anyone 6 months and older, students, families, friends – All are welcome!
· WHERE: RJ Family Flu Shot Clinic: Thursday 11/7 from 6-7:30 PM
· WHAT: FREE Flu shots. These are shots, not the nose mist. They are single use, pre-filled syringes and do not contain preservatives.
Watch for additional information as we get closer to the date. And we thank the Municipality of Anchorage Health Department for providing this service to our school families!
Checking those eyes, ears, heights & weights.
Every year ASD does its best to identify students who may have problems seeing and hearing. School nurses throughout the district provide and coordinate these screenings, specifically screening pre-k, kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th graders. RJ students will be screened over the next 3 months. If your student is found to have vision/eye, or hearing difficulties, you will be notified in writing and with a phone call for recommendations on follow-up. As always, if at any time you think your student is having difficulty hearing or seeing, Nurse Sandy would be happy to test them.
Help us keep your student and the rest of the RJ school family healthy and safe.
If your student comes down with a contagious illness such as mumps, measles, strep throat, or potentially contagious rash, please let the nurse and teacher know so we can make sure classrooms get special cleaning attention and we can re-enforce good hand washing in classes. If your child gets injured (for example broken bones, concussions) and needs a PE Excuse or other accommodations in school, let the nurse and teacher know so we can help them get better and stay safe. Be assured we do not share who is sick or injured except with those who need to know (teachers/nurse).
How sick is too sick to come to school?
Recently Nurse Sandy sent home guidance on how to determine if your student is too sick to come to school. Please review it and if you ever have questions about whether or not to send your child to school, please feel free to call Nurse Sandy at 742-1301.
