Peter educated himself on the arts of photography and made the decision to take a trip to America in 1984. He traveled the US for a year, driving around the country in an old van. During his stop in Alaska, Peter discovered the panoramic camera and this changed everything. He returned to Alaska and continued to experiment with panoramic photography. He decided to return to the US in 1989 and took on a project called "Spirt of America." He took landscape photos in all 50 states. He called this, the "biggest challenge of my life."
Peter's photography style is landscape photography. He made a name for himself by taking panoramic landscapes photos that captured striking colors and create "larger than life" pieces. His main styles are either horizontal photos or panoramic photos.
Peter has won the following awards: Master Photographer from the Professional Photographers of America and the Australian Institute of Professional Photography. He has also received fellowship awards from The Royal Photographic Society and British Institute of Professional Photographers.
An article from a New York Times article in February 2015 talked about Peter Lik and his photography. There were a few quotes from him included in this article. One of them was: “I’m the world’s most famous photographer, most sought after photographer, most awarded photographer.”
