Don Benito Fundamental - Updates 03/08/2021
Message from the Principal
Dear Don Benito Families,
Last Thursday, the Board of Education voted to open schools the week of March 29 for students in kindergarten through second grade. Students in third through fifth grade will return after Spring Break, on April 13th. The simultaneous model of instruction will be implemented with some students continuing with remote learning and some students returning to their classrooms. The COVID Compliance Team is using the PUSD COVID Handbook and Pasadena Public Health Guidelines to plan a safe return. Here is some information regarding the reopening:
- Mondays will continue with virtual instruction with one hour of synchronous learning and three hours of asynchronous learning through CANVAS. Custodians focus on deep cleaning and staff receives professional development.
- School hours will remain from 8:00 am -12:55 pm for all students. We are working on staggering times for recess to promote social distancing.
- Tuesday, March 30 - Kindergarten students return to campus.
- Wednesday, March 31 - Cesar Chavez Holiday, no school
- Thursday, April 1 - First and second graders return to campus.
- Friday, April 2 - Students in grades K-2nd on campus
- The classroom maximum capacity is 16 people. This number includes the teacher and classroom aides. The number of students returning will determine if there is one cohort attending 4 days a week, or two cohorts attending 2 days a week. For example, if 12 students return to a class, there will be one cohort. However, if the total number of people in the class exceed 16 people there will be two cohorts.
- Students' classroom assignments will remain the same, regardless if student is returning to school or continuing with distance learning.
More information will be available in the next few weeks. Parent forums are being planned. Please complete the Return to School Survey by Friday, March 12. The data collected will help us organize the cohorts. Please contact the main office if you need assistance.
