Student Supervision

I cannot stress enough the importance of student supervision these last 13 days of school.

In the classroom- Planning highly engaging lessons will keep their minds focused on the right thing: teaching and learning. This is the time to pull out all of those "fun" learning activities you have been wanting to do with your students.

RECESS- The injuries and the arguments students are getting and having can be reduced with close teacher proximity and active supervision. The soccer field is a hot spot for problems. If you are going to allow your students to play soccer then a teacher must be an active referee. Our recess area is VERY big yet I do not see teachers spread out. Administration will be monitoring the playground periodically to make sure supervision is at its best. Work with the teachers who are outside with you at the same time to decide on zones of close proximity to supervise.

Zones- Blacktop, playground equipment, soccer field, kickball/baseball area.

Promotion/Retention Decisions & Summer School

The State Department of Education voted Thursday to waive promotion/retention based on GA Milestones results this year. GCPS will provide me with official communication early this week to send to parents. I will also share that same communication with you.

GA Milestones results are scheduled to be delivered to the district in late June/early July.

Summer School (face to face) will be offered to students in 3rd-5th grade.s The following is the criteria:

3rd grade students who have a yearlong average below 70 in reading.

4th & 5th grade students who have a yearlong average below 70 in reading and math.

4th grade students with a yearlong average below 70 in science and social studies will be offered online interventions.

Retesting will occur in GCPS. Details are forthcoming.

Currently, summer school will be held at Mountain Park ES for the Parkview Cluster Schools. If our numbers are high due to the new criteria then we might need to offer summer school here. That would mean we would need Arcado 3rd-5th grade teachers to teach summer school. We will keep you updated as we are pulling student data to determine who will be invited to summer school.

Interested in teaching Summer School?

With that being said, we are planning for summer school to be at Mountain Park ES. If you are interested in teaching complete the application attached to the Keynotes email.

School Leadership Team Applications

We are opening the opportunity to all certified teachers to apply for the School Leadership Team next year. If you are interested in building your leadership skills please consider applying. Application and Commitments are attached to the Keynotes email.

Wednesday- We will present your grade level expectations for summer collaborative planning. Teachers will receive a $150 stipend. Also, you will complete the end of the year survey.

Thursday- Grade levels will present their learning based on the TIM staff development this year. Complete your RBES results and conclusions on this goal prior to this day. All teachers are expected to attend. We will meet in the staff development trailer.

PLUG INS

GCPS Facilities and Operations wants all plug ins to be removed immediately. They are a fire hazard and have caused problems at schools around the county. From this day for forward no plug ins are allowed at Arcado Elementary School.

Refrigerators, Microwaves, Coffee Pots in classrooms

As you are packing up for the summer please take these household items home and do not plan to bring them back to school in August. We have been slack about this county expectation. I must begin following this district expectation. PLEASE do not ask me to make an exception for you.
