Henry Ford School Newsletter, April 12, 2021
Principal's Message
Dear Henry Ford Families,
We had an exciting week welcoming back so many more students who started In-Person learning for the first time this year. Approximately 95% of our teachers are offering In-Person learning either in the morning, afternoon, or both. It was wonderful seeing so many more students engaged in learning and enjoying themselves on the playground. I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to interact with the students this week as I visited all the classrooms and reviewed safety protocols and expectations for the rest of the year.
Approximately 40% of students elected to remain with Distance Learning. More than half of our teachers are offering both In-Person and Distance Learning. Most of them are accomplishing this by splitting their day with In-Person teaching in the morning and Distance teaching in the afternoon.
Although the lessons look similar, teachers may be delivering instruction in two different modalities by preparing instruction for In-Person and Distance Students. But many of our teachers have elected to teach simultaneously because they wanted to avoid losing any students by having many of them switch classrooms.
We are so proud of the hard work our teachers are taking on to ensure students have the best experience and continue to progress in meeting their social and academic needs. All of us are invested more than ever to help students achieve their goals as we progress through the end of the year. I know parents who have made sacrifices to support their children during these challenging times and we appreciate those efforts.
I'm grateful for all the hard work our teachers and families are doing to collectively support our students. Thank you for all of your support.
Sincerely,
Al Rosell, Ed.D., Principal

MORNING DROP OFF
With the addition of more than 100 new students on campus, morning drop off was more challenging last week. As we work through expediting all the students entering campus in the morning, and as everyone becomes more acclimated with the safety protocols, we ask for your patience. As a reminder, every child must have a wellness screening form completed each morning. For many families, signing on line and completing the form electronically before 7:30 AM seems to work well:
Other families find the use of the paper hard copy of the screening form more convenient. The hard copies are available as you drive up. However, we encourage you to take enough copies for the week and have them ready to turn them in as your child is checked in each morning. We greatly appreciate your help and patience as we work to refine the process for everyone.
Principal Advisory Committee (PAC) Update
I am pleased to welcome the following parents who will be part of the Principal Advisory Committee (PAC) this Spring and into next school year: Jeanette Camacho, Kelly McCarthy, Joanne Penko, and Christine Yoshimoto. Staff members will also be joining the team. This group will focus on moving Henry Ford School forward, addressing concerns in the community, and proactively working on areas of focus. To contribute ideas to the Committee for review, feel free to complete this Form, and the Committee will begin reviewing the ideas in our bi-weekly meetings starting April 15, at 6:30 PM. We are excited to get started!
