Hello, Castle View Families:

Please note that we are on an Extended Advisement schedule Monday through Thursday of next week. You can find all adjusted bell schedules HERE, and the Extended Advisement Schedule is pictured below.

On Monday and Thursday, our counseling team will be presenting registration information to students in Extended Advisements. During these presentations, students will learn about the courses that are available to them and how to complete their Academic Planners to express their interest in the Castle View courses they'd like to take next year.

We encourage you to look through this slideshow with your student and talk about what courses they might like to explore. Don't hesitate to reach out to your counselor or Assistant Principal with any questions you may have.

As always, thank you for sharing your kids with us. It is our honor to serve them.

New Schedule FAQ

Q: Why are we doing this?

A: To create opportunities for all DCSD high schoolers to access programming like Career and Technical Education, Advanced Placement, and Concurrent Enrollment courses outside their home campus. Examples of this programming include Cosmetology at Highlands Ranch High School, Automotive at Douglas County and Ponderosa High Schools, Fire Science at Rock Canyon High School, the extraordinary Engineering and Journalism courses here at CV, and pathways that will open at the DCSD Legacy Campus next Fall. It also includes Advanced Placement classes like Calc 3, Differential Equations, AP Physics, etc. Further, a common schedule allows our post-secondary partners at Arapahoe Community College to align their schedule and offer students CE courses both at CV and at the new STURM Campus.

Q: With this change in the schedule, will we be able to acquire enough credits to graduate?

A: Absolutely. Our counselors will make sure that students complete their graduation requirements.

Q: How will we manage the homework from 7 classes instead of 4?

A: Because of the nature of an alternating block, students will have a similar nightly homework load, completing their assignments for the classes that will meet the next day. Further, the block periods will be longer than our current blocks, allowing teachers to build in additional work time during the school day.

Q: Can we still double up in math and world language?

A: As long as there are enough students interested in this option, we can create double up options in both math and world language. I show a sample of what that schedule could look like in the video linked below.

Q: Will I still be able to access Arapahoe Community College and Concurrent Enrollment classes?

A: Yes. In fact, because of the increased flexibility of the 7 period schedule, it may prove easier to enroll in multiple concurrent enrollment courses.

Q: What would my current schedule look like on this new schedule?

A: A sample 10th and 11th grade schedule is pictured below, with what the schedule looks like now and how it would look like next year.

Q: Can we still have off periods?

A: Yes.

Q: Can we meet with our counselors to talk through how our academic plan will work in this new schedule?

A: Of course. Counselors are planning to meet with Juniors during Term 2 to start planning for registration this winter.
