Cheltenham School District Implements “Safe2Say Something” Anonymous Reporting System
The Cheltenham School District has adopted the “Safe2Say Something” (S2SS) anonymous reporting system for grades 7-12. Mandated under the Pennsylvania General Assembly’s 2018 Act 44, the program educates students and adults to recognize and report at-risk behavior – especially on social media. Read more>

Chanel Brissett '17 Takes NCAA 60m Hurdles Title at NCAAs
USC Trojans sprinter and 2017 CHS graduate Chanel Brissett won the NCAA 60m hurdles this past weekend at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. The sophomore took the title by tying her personal record of 7.90, outpacing North Carolina A&T's Kayla White by two-tenths of a second. That time ranks fifth in the world this season. CBKTheatre Returns Home to Stage Monty Python's "Spamalot"
“Lovingly ripped off” from the classic 1975 comedy film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” Monty Python’s “Spamalot” tells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table in a whole new way. Featuring gallant (and not so gallant) knights, showgirls, showboys, cows, killer rabbits and French people, this irreverent spoof includes hilarious parodies of Broadway theatre along the way. Performances are Thursday through Saturday, March 21-23 at 7:30 p.m.at Cedarbrook Middle School. All seating is general admission. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Cheltenham.org/spamalot.

EP’s Laylah Charlie Smith Earns Medal at AAU Nationals in 3,000 Meters
EP fifth grader Laylah Charlie Smith has been running distance events for three years, and she announced her presence on the national stage in a big way this past weekend with a medal-winning effort in the 3,000-meters in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Indoor Nationals in Prince George County, Md. Tickets on Sale for Cheltenham Musical Theater’s Production of "Urinetown"

Girls Track Sets School Marks at New Balance National Indoor Meet
This past weekend, the Girls Track team set a handful of school records at the New Balance National Indoor meet at the Armory in New York City. Senior Bria Barnes and junior Brianna Smith each claimed all-American honors. Smith had an outstanding meet in the pentathlon and high jump. She placed fifth in the pentathlon with a school record 3,667 points. In the high jump, Smith broke her own school record, leaping 5-8.5. Barnes set the school record in the Championship 400-meter final. Read more>

Road Trip to Bowie State for WHM Forum
District and high school administrators and teachers led a daylong trip to Maryland’s Bowie State Wednesday for almost 20 African-American CHS students to experience the 6,000-student historically black university and attend a women’s history month forum and panel discussion.

Board Adopts 2019-2020 Academic Calendar
By unanimous vote at the Tuesday, March 12 Legislative board meeting, the Board of School Directors of Cheltenham School District adopted the following schedule for the 2019-2020 academic year.
The calendar features teacher induction Tuesday through Friday, August 12 - 15, 2019, pre-Labor Day start of Monday, August 26, 2019, , nine professional development days, four built-in snow days, Thursday, June 4, 2020, graduation and a final student day of Tuesday, June 16, 2020. View calendar>

Kindergarten Registration and Readiness Screening for the Class of 2032
Kindergarten registration and readiness screening for the 2019-20 school year will take place Monday, May 6 through Thursday, May 23 from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Administration Building (2000 Ashbourne Rd., Elkins Park). Due to professional development day, registration will not take place on Tuesday, May 21. Prior to making an appointment, parents/guardians must submit an application via the district's registration portal. Once registration paperwork is submitted, a link will appear to schedule an appointment to bring in the required paperwork and for the child to participate in the readiness screening. Children must be a Cheltenham Township resident to register, and be 5-years-old on or before September 1, 2019, to attend kindergarten this coming school year. For questions or assistance scheduling an appointment, contact CSD Registrar Kate Shevlin at 215-881-6322.

Summer Voyage “Taking Flight” at Cheltenham Elementary
Cheltenham School District will sponsor the 2019 Summer Voyage program “Taking Flight,” where rising second through sixth graders can explore the history of flight, its social and cultural impact on societies across the globe, engineering and design of various aircraft, and design of their own flight innovations. Pennsylvania-certified teachers will lead students through a project-based learning model as they exercise their curiosity, creativity, collaboration and critical-thinking skills in various activities.
