Osprey Weekly
September 18, 2020
Dear LES Families,
It was announced at the September 16th SMCPS Town Hall that student return to school buildings is being postponed and future student return dates to hybrid learning will be communicated from the Superintendent's Office. Pre-K students will not be returning on September 21st.
I also want to share that our school serves free meals on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. for children 18 years of age and under. These are "grab and go" meals.
As we continue in this virtual model, I want to reiterate the importance of working closely with the classroom teacher if your child is struggling. If you would like to meet with the teacher, please reach out via email to set up a time to meet during the asynchronous time in your child's schedule or at another agreed upon time. Our teachers are more than willing to assist you. If your child is struggling with anxiety or being overwhelmed, please feel free to reach out to me, Mr. LaCount or Mrs. Bronzell. We are here to help!
SMCPS is in the process of rolling out parent access to Schoology. Please see below more information about what to expect through your Schoology access.
Finally, in the coming days, teachers will be communicating with you information and a request to sign up for an assigned time for your child to be administered the DIBELS Assessment by your child's Reading Teacher and/or a Resource Teacher. The assessment will be administered through Google Meets and teachers will share with you expectations for this one on one meeting with your child. This assessment will give teachers and staff important information about your child's reading. Teachers will use the data gathered to plan targeted small group reading instruction.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you need anything.
Take care!
Dr. Quick-McQueen, Principal

New Information
Parent Access for Schoology
Hello LES Families!
In the next couple of days, you will receive an email from our Schoology platform (sender email will be no-reply@schoology.com), and the subject will be Schoology Registration. This email is an invitation to log-in to your parent account, which will give you access to view information relative to your child's Schoology account. Schoology makes it easy for you to stay involved in your child's/children's education as you will be able to view:
The classes your child is enrolled in
The groups your child is a member of
Your child’s upcoming assignments and due dates
School and class announcements and course updates
Calendar
Materials
Graded Schoology assignments
You can learn more about the features of parent access as well as what to do if you don’t receive an email by reviewing this presentation.
Please keep in mind that Schoology is brand new to us, so it may take some time to iron out any wrinkles that we discover along the way. We greatly appreciate all of the patience and support during the start of the school year and thank you in advance for your continued patience as we launch this new tool for parents.
Again, the invitation email will come from no-reply@schoology.com, and the subject will be Schoology Registration.
