Stage Notes

East Lincoln High School Chorus & Theatre Newsletter

September 2019

The Stage Notes Newsletter is published the first of every month and contains lots of information about both the Theatre Arts and Choral Music programs at East Lincoln High School. We want to try not only to get the word out about upcoming performances but also to keep our community up-to-date on what our students are doing and how they can partner with us to produce the highest quality programs.

If you have friends, family, or neighbors who would enjoy this monthly look into theatre and chorus, share with them our website,, and they can sign up to receive the newsletter at the bottom of any page.

Thanks for being a part of our performing arts community!

"EXTREME MAKEOVER: Theatre Edition" Is Moving Forward!

After a year of writing grants and meeting with businesses and organizations, September 19 brought us UNBELIEVABLE news! The Timken Foundation awarded the East Lincoln Chorus & Theatre Programs a grant of $115,000 to move forward with our Black Box Renovations. The generosity of the Timken Foundation will allow us to install a theatrical pipe grid in the Black Box to hang lighting instruments for a new LED lighting system. This lighting system is especially exciting because, in addition to improving our productions, it will allow our technical students to be trained on the equipment they will find in the professional entertainment industry if they choose to pursue that route. Additionally, we will be adding perimeter curtains to the space to black out the windows and improve acoustics.

While we are beyond excited for the Timken funding, we are also continuing to look for a few additional partners to assist with acquiring new platforms and seating for audience members. Walmart of Denver, First Federal Savings Bank, and Knox Law Center are contributors to the seating portion of this project. If you, your business, a friend, or a friend's business would be interested in helping us make this space better for our audiences, please contact Mr. Franklin. We want everyone entering the Black Box Theater to have a great experience, and students and community members will appreciate these donors for years to come! Contributions of any size are welcomed and appreciated!

Stay tuned for pictures and information as this EXTREME MAKEOVER takes shape!

"Life is full of surprises and serendipity. Being open to unexpected turns in the road is an important part of success. If you try to plan every step, you may miss those wonderful twists and turns. Just find your next adventure-do it well, enjoy it-and then, not now, think about what comes next."

Our first performance of the year, Broadway Á La Mode, featured many new students in our performance family! From Disney classics to current Broadway, the evening was filled with smiles and songs. And hey, is there a better way to kick off the year than with music and ice-cream? Our next cabaret event will be in February as we celebrate Valentines Day with our buddy Cupid!

October was just not the best time for our community yard sale, BUT we are going to give it another shot in the spring! Stay tuned for our new date!

As we gear up for this season, we are looking for THREE Signature Sponsors to underwrite our mainstage productions. Each show will have one Signature Sponsor and that individual or business will be listed prominently on all marketing materials for the show, as well as a lobby advertisement for all performances. Each of our mainstage shows is different and reflects a different cost for underwriting.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever - $500

Hairspray - $1000

Peter and the Starcatcher - $500

If you, or someone you know, would be interested in becoming a Signature Sponsor, please contact Mr. Franklin using the contact information at the bottom of the newsletter.

The band, chorus, and theatre students will be kicking off a holiday citrus sale on October 15. There is something special about having fresh fruit for the holidays and we are here to help. Ask your favorite performing artists to see their fruit brochure, check out the sale on our webpage, or give us a call and we will make sure you have enough for your family, friends, business, or whoever you want to share Florida's finest with!

We are SO excited about our fall production of The Addams Family that we have set aside Wednesdays each week to share that excitement! Our "On Wednesdays We Wear Black" shirts can be seen all over our campus each Wednesday and we would love to see that spread out into the community! Contact Mr. Franklin to get your shirt and join the "We Wear Black" celebration.

We are so grateful to the local businesses and organizations who sponsored and advertised with us for 2019! When you have the chance to support these businesses, please do, and let them know how much you appreciate their support of the performing arts at East Lincoln!

We will begin sending out sponsorship and advertisement information for 2020 in October. We look forward to partnering with more of our local businesses and organizations as we continue to grow the performing arts programs at East Lincoln!

Did you know that one piece of music for a choir of 20 costs $55 making the total cost for a concert around $500?

Did you know that it costs around $2,000 for rights, royalties, and materials for a musical production? Those costs do not include costumes, sets, make-up, special effects, or musicians. Straight plays are a bit cheaper, but still, have some of the same monetary needs.

While expensive, these productions are amazing and wonderful laboratory settings for students to act, create, and collaborate all while learning a plethora of skills that will serve them both in the arts and in their future academic and professional endeavors.

That's where YOU come in! We are currently beginning our search for sponsors and advertisers for 2020. Each advertisement and sponsorship support FOUR CHORAL CONCERTS, THREE MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS, TWO CLASS PRODUCTIONS, and a partridge in a pear tree (well, not really!)

If you, your friend, or family member would consider partnering with us for 2020, please check out the forms below. Beginning Monday, October 7, sponsorship and advertisement information will be available on our website under keyword SUPPORT US. You may mail the forms to the school with a check or complete them and pay online.

If you have any questions about our programs, the levels of partnership, or how the funds are used, please contact Mr. Franklin.

We look forward to seeing your businesses and organizations in our 2020 playbills!
