Stephanie was born in New Kensington, PA in 1923. She also grew up there. Her mom was Nellie Kwolek. Her dad was John Kwolek. At college, Stephanie was a Major in chemistry. She wanted to be a doctor, but she didn't have enough money. She got a job as a chemical researcher at DuPont.
Important Inventions and Other Accomplishments
Stephanie was inspiered by her dad to invent. She started when she was 42. In 1965, she found a chemical that didn't look like the other ones. Stephanie persuaded her teammates to spin it into a fiber called Kevlar. She made a bullet proof vest with kevlar. Kevlar is also used in rope, car brakes, sports equipment, and musical instruments. In 1994, Stephanie was the fourth women in the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
