ST Math
Please email me your ST Math Schedule for January by the end of this week (12/16) indicating what days/times that you will be using ST Math.
If you are having a hard time utilizing the program, please look at the report below and talk to your grade level partner who is having more success to find out when/how they are accessing it.
If the report does not seem accurate, please first make sure your students are logging out correctly and then let me know so I can follow up with our rep.

From Jr. Coaches to Sports Clinic Stars, from Safety Patrol to Library volunteers (like Ruby Labrie below reading to Ms. Brodsky's Kindergarteners).
It's pretty inspiring to see all the ways in which our older students can help to build community.
SEL Team's Top 5 Reminders for a Happy Recess
Top 5 Rules for a Happy Recess
At the whistle- Play structure and Tether ball: walk off mat & take a knee; then walk out circle & take a knee
Jr. Coaches & Designated classes (Mr. Ross's class only at pm recess): pick up equipment
1st Whistle: all play stops, drop to 1 knee, & listen for instructions
2nd Whistle: walk to class line & remain in line
- Hallways: enter & exit building with teacher quietly (3 B’s- be respectful, be responsible, be safe)
SEL Toolbox Buddy?
In January we will move on to our next tool, "Courage". Please work with your toolbox partner to finish up your buddy class time this week.
The Wolfe and Brouhard's fifth graders met with their buddies this week (Sullivan's are in the photos) to teach them about interdependence which is their science unit.
The second graders then had homework to go home and teach their parents what their fifth grade buddies taught them....
Movie Friday
Your SEL lead teachers at your grade level have the plan for the movie day on Friday. Please communicate with them to get that finalized.
Tips from Tara, our Playworks Coach
I remember my school this time last year... Lots of rain and restless bodies. As we continue to provide our students with safe and healthy play, whether on the blacktop or inside the cafeteria, I wanted to forward you all some helpful tools.
Below you will find bench games and line games, which are exactly how they sound... Games you can play on a bench or in a line. Super helpful during transition times or if our indoor game space is nice and cozy.
Here is a link to alternatives to withholding recess as a form of punishment. I understand it is easy to have a student sit during recess when they are disrespectful in the classroom and uncooperative at 4-Square although, benching may not always prove to be the most successful tool. Check it out and use as you see fit.
Have the best of days and stay warm out there!
- Coach C! Thank you for inviting me into your girls group and allowing them to be part of the process in designing our Giant 2-Square rules!
- Mr. Wolfe AKA Game Master! He maximizes our blacktop space while engaging his class in safe play. I also admire how he uses a lot of Playworks games :)
- Ms. Tasha and Ms. Christina! Your presence on the blacktop is key! From dismissing students in an engaging way to walking around ensuring our students safety. Thank you for braving the sun, the mist and everything in-between!
Playfully,
Tara

Creating Time for Holiday Feelings
Be sure to create time this week for fun, but also to acknowledge the complexities of holidays.
Also, please keep your regular routines and expectations in place. Extra free time or unstructured activities can lead to behavior issues.
Holiday Party Countdown!
Wednesday, December 14 (time: 2-4pm, place: TBD). This event will be a potluck as well as a White Elephant Gift Exchange Party (yep, we're bringing it back!). The GSC will provide paper products and beverages. You will provide the food - so start thinking about that special recipe that you like to make...and a wacky gift that you would like to offload! White elephant gifts should be gifts you have around that aren't a "match" for you, but may be a match for others. Can be funny (or not)...
One Warm Coat Drive is Starting
Glenview will be collecting coats/jackets to donate to St. Vincent de Paul's of Oakland on West Grand from now until end of January. Please bring in gently used or new washed coats!
