First Grade End of the Year Picnic

Friday, May 24th, 10:30am-12:30pm

Bradfield West Playground

Mark your calendars... First grade is having a picnic! The kids will bring a sack lunch and enjoy a picnic outside on the sport court. All parents are invited to attend. After the kids eat at 10:30, they will have time to play "yard games" out on the soccer field with their parents and friends.
*Be sure to bring some fun games to play with on the field!

Thank you to Becky Nelson for volunteering to bring popsicles and Chelsea Duvall & Traci Owen for bringing water!

This week our homework involves making an insect! Please have fun with this and use your imagination! The kids are learning about the parts of insects and they should try to make sure they include those in their make believe bugs! Get creative and use things around the house! :)

First Grade Camp!!!

Every year in first grade we celebrate our fun together by having a "classroom campout". Does anyone happen to have a tent that we could set up in the classroom to make it super special for the kids? If you wouldn't mind letting us borrow it, that would be really fun! If its tricky, I might need some assistance setting it up. :)

Would anybody like to sponser our S'mores? We are looking for graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate bars for our celebration next Thursday. :)

There will be more information coming soon in their folders about the special activities of camp next week, but I'll go ahead and give you a quick run-down...

Tuesday: “Campout Under the Stars” – Wear your PJ’s to school and bring a small blanket or pillow (please send items in a bag that is easy for the kids to carry). Bring your favorite book from home (please mark with name), a stuffed animal and a flashlight for reading. Be sure to bring a Teddy Bear (or other animal) for the “Teddy Bear Sleepover” tonight. The animals will stay at school, so be sure it is not one that your child has to sleep with every night.

Wednesday: “Camp Mail” – Read and write letters. Create 1st Grade Memory Books. Teddy Bears will report about their crazy night at the “sleepover”.

Thursday: “Around the Campfire”- Make S’mores, and play board games around the campfire. Bring your favorite board game to play with friends. Please make sure your name is on it.

Friday: “Camp Goodbyes” – Reading Buddy celebration, and yearbook signing. The students will go to specials and then be dismissed at 1:45.

End of Year Party

Tuesday, May 28th, 3-4:30pm

4330 Mockingbird Ln

Dallas, TX

A huge thank you to the Stienke's for hosting our fun end of the year party! Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered to bring party supplies! We are going to walk across the street as a class (her home is right behind Bradfield, how convenient!) - I'll be sending home permission slips this week that need to be filled out ASAP!

Please send your child to school next Tuesday with a swimsuit and towel. During the last part of the day I'm going to send them to the bathroom and get changed here at school before we walk over so we can get the party started!

Looking forward to a great time with the kiddos!

Summer Birthdays

If you are a lucky one and your child gets to celebrate their birthday in the Summer, you are welcome to pick a day for us to celebrate at school during the month of May. Pick a day that works with your schedule, and then email me and I'll put it on our calendar!

Speedy needs a vacation home!

Speedy doesn't have anywhere to vacation for the last few weekends of school. If you would like to offer your house for a hamster vacation home for the weekend, let me know!

Also... Speedy is looking for a friend to spend summer vacation with as well! Two whole months of fun! If you are interested in being Speedy's summer vacation home- email me back!

Summer Reading Program

Summer is just around the corner. What a great time to get prepared for our summer reading challenge. Each student has information that was sent home in their Friday folders about this year's summer reading challenge and suggested summer reading titles. On May 17th and 18th, the Highland Park school libraries are having an in-store book fair at Barnes & Noble at both Lincoln Park and Preston/Royal locations. A percentage of the profits made will come back to all of the HPISD libraries. Make sure to let the Barnes & Noble sales associates know you are shopping to benefit HPISD libraries. If you can't make it on the 17th and 18th, you can shop online until May 22nd by going to and by using the promotional book fair ID 11088994 at checkout. There is a flyer that went home in this week's Friday folder with the ID number also. Please hold on to this ID to ensure all of the sales will be credited to HPISD. Thanks for your support!
