Background info
In 1929 the stock market crashed and the United States fell into the Great Depression. In 1932 the US was at one of its worst years with almost 1/4 of the American workforce unemployed.When Franklin D. Roosevelt took office in 1933 he took action in trying to get the economy and workforce going. He took action by starting projects and government programs, which were known as the New Deal. The New Deal was a series of programs put into place in the U.S. between 1933 and 1938. The New Deal was important because it helped give unemployed people work. It also accomplished great projects, such as the Hoover Dam. The New Deal led to reforms in banking such as FDIC, which insured money in backed to be backed up by the government.
Impact on Amican Lit.
The New Deal had a couple of projects to give jobs to artists and readers. Federal Art Project (FAP) was one of the projects created. It gave over 200,000 jobs to artists and writers. They created art and murals and paintings.
