Medieval Ruins
Luxembourg has many historical sites, such as castles, that can take visitors back to medieval times. Shown is Beaufort Castle which dates back to the 11th century and can be found in Beaufort, Luxembourg.
Grand Ducal Palace
The Grand Ducal Palace is home to the Grand Duke of Luxembourg and can be found in the capital city. Luxembourg is the last remaining country in the world to have a Duke.
Climate and Agriculture
Due to the mild climate and the moderating effects of the Gulf Stream and the North Sea, fresh fruit and vegetables are never in short supply. 25% of the land is suitable for cultivation, and the Moselle River on the Southeastern border irrigates land for grape and wine industries, some of the country's main agricultural products. Other products harvested include barley, oats, potatoes, and wheat.
Dining Ettiquite
Both hands must stay above the table at all times! Also, it is rude to not ask for seconds (which is probably why this country has a high obesity rate.)
Holidays and Foods
Luxembourgish Advent traditions start with following that of the Dutch holiday Sinterklaas at the beginning of December, and end later in the month with Christmas. Trèipen is traditionally eaten on Christmas Eve and is a black pudding made using the head, lungs, kidney, and tongue of pork.
