Message from Principal Davis
I hope this message finds you well. We are just one day away from the beginning of School Year 20-21 and I hope you all are getting excited. On Friday night our kindergarten and 2nd grade teams hosted parent meet-ups and It was a great success. Shout Out to all of our families that were able to join us on Friday night. I would also like to give a special “Shout Out” to all of our parents who joined us on Wednesday for our Browne Community Conversations. Your feedback and questions were amazing. Thank you for your care, concern and commitment to your scholars and the Browne community.
Parents, as we begin this school year, let’s not allow our virtual posture keep us from celebrating the excitement of the new school year. I am asking that all parents please share your 1st day of school pictures with us via social media. Take a picture of your scholar and tag us on Twitter (BrowneEC), Facebook (BrowneEducationCampus), and Instagram (browne_ec). We would love to see you all. We can’t wait to see your pictures and celebrate.

Browne Community Conversations
We would like to thank all of our families who joined us for our Browne Community Conversation on last Wednesday August 26th, 2020. Between the two meetings we met with about 50+ families. If you were unable to join us but would like to know what we discussed, please check out the video below.
Virtual Learning Updates and Schedules
Parents, as you all know, will be re-opening SY 20-21 virtually with the first day for students K-8 on Monday, August 31st, 2020. The first day of school for Pre-K students is Thursday, September 3rd, 2020. Our ECE educators (PreK3 and PreK4) will be using the first three days to engage with families to build relationships virtually. During these virtual (or phone) engagements, educators will introduce themselves to parents, meet scholars and discuss plans for the year (including hopes and dreams). Actual instruction for PreK3 and PreK 4 scholars should begin on the 3rd, in alignment with the original 20-21 calendar.
At this point, most parents should have received introductory phone calls from your scholar’s educator. Educators are calling to make sure all scholars are ready to log in and begin learning on Monday morning. If you have not yet received a phone call, fret not. Educators are working through the weekend to reach out and speak to families. Parents, to assist with this effort, please check your voicemail and missed calls to ensure you did not miss the opportunity to connect with your child’s educator.
Regarding Monday, our Virtual Learning instructional hours will vary based on your scholars’ grade level. Please take a moment to review the schedules below:
PreK3- PreK4
Kindergarten
1st and 2nd Grade
3rd through 5th Grade
6th through 8th Grade
Our daily schedules include direct instruction, one-on-one student check-ins, small group instruction, and teacher consultation as needed. What is most important is that scholars sign-in via canvas at the appointed time. There will be a link to their classroom within the canvas platform. If for any reason you are having issues, please know that you can contact the school at 202-671-6210. Administrators will be available to answer your questions.
Student Device Pick-Up
We would like to thank all of our parents for coming to pick-up your scholar’s device. Your patience and consistent communication have made this process a success. If any parents have questions or concerns related to device pick-up, please call the school at 202-671-6210 or email Mr. Troxler (michael.troxler@k12.dc.gov or Principal Davis (dwight.davis@k12.dc.gov).
Parting Words from Principal Davis
As we begin our journey on tomorrow, the adage, “Teamwork makes the dream work,” comes to mind as a fitting mantra as we learn and grow our way through SY 20- 21. The truth is, there are no experts at shifting 50,000+ scholars to virtual learning. There is only the grace that we give ourselves, our children, our teachers and the commitment to grow ourselves daily as we work toward being our best selves amidst the twists and turns of this school year.
