Superintendent Update - January 4, 2021
Welcome Back!
I’d like to welcome you to the first day of school in 2021! I hope that you and your family are healthy, and that you were able to take time over the holiday to rest and recharge. We are all in this together, and we do our best to provide an engaging and high quality instructional program.
Some of the greatest heroes of our time are nurses. Nurses are dedicated to the health and well being of others, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Just as we have changed to virtual learning for our students, our school nurses have gone virtual!
Our school nurses can connect you with health resources that are available to the community. If your students are not feeling well or are experiencing symptoms that could potentially be related to COVID, please feel free to contact our school nurses.
Getting control over the pandemic will take everyone doing their part. No-cost testing locations in Los Angeles County can be found here. The sooner one knows they are positive, the sooner they can inform close contacts (within 6 feet for 15+ cumulative minutes over a 24-hour period) and ensure they quarantine and prevent further spread in the community.
Below you will see links to each school’s health office. Stay safe and remember we are all in this together, so let’s do our part in ensuring we are all healthy!

Stay Home
In December, I underscored that the Department of Public Health (DPH) urged us to stay home, not interact with anyone outside our immediate household and avoid all travel outside of Los Angeles County. Due to ever-increasing COVID case numbers and hospitalizations, on December 29, Governor Newsom extended the existing Stay at Home order. The following day, the Los Angeles County DPH issued a revised Health Order and a travel advisory.
Governor Newsom continues to support the opening of schools. While we have been cleared to do so by the DPH site inspections, everyone in our community can help us all stay healthy by following all recommended protocols.
Stay Healthy
Our Safe, Clean, Ready! “At a Glance” document reminds us to wear a mask, socially distance and wash our hands frequently. The entire SCR guidelines can be found at www.lawndalesd.net/scr.
Thank you for doing your part to slow the spread and maintain a healthy workplace and community!
Meet Sandra Gonzalez
Sandra Gonzalez is the Community Liaison at Will Rogers Middle School. Sandra works hard to ensure that families are always up to date with the latest school news. She encourages parents/families to stay engaged at school to best support their students and to keep growing in their education by attending the many parent workshops that are offered both at the school sites and district level.
Sandra first joined Lawndale Elementary School District in 2016 as a RAP Program Leader, where she enjoyed working with students. This is her third year as Community Liaison at Rogers Middle School and has enjoyed the transition to now working with parents. In addition, she works alongside many departments, school staff, administrators, and community partners to bring the best resources and support to all families.
Sandra is passionate about helping people and making a difference. She cherishes the many relationships she has built over time with families and strives to encourage parents to become leaders. She is proud of the growth she has witnessed from parents at her school over the past few years and she believes that every parent has the potential to make a change and be advocates for their students!
