Student Attendance Celebrations!
But does attendance really matter?
Missing just 2 days in the first month of school (10% of days enrolled) makes a student chronically absent and puts them at academic risk.
Even EXCUSED absences affect students' ability to learn the content they'll need to succeed! Kids who are absent do not do as well academically as their peers with strong attendance.
When kids are sick, they should stay home until they're well. But try to schedule other absences, such as appointments and vacations outside of school hours.
Please see below when students DO NOT have school - These are great times to schedule appointments or fun events.
October: 6th and 9th
November: 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th
December: 21-29th
January:1, 2, 3 and 15th
February: 16th and 19th
March: 22nd, 25-29th
April: 19th
See more below about how student absences can negatively impact a students' reading proficiency.
Statistically speaking, students who are chronically absent are far less likely to read on grade level and will continue to fall farther and farther behind their peers. The more days a student is absent, the harder it is for them to catch up. These students miss out on critical reading and math skills that they need to carry them through the rest of their K-12 education and into college and/or their career.
Fun events your child will not want to miss!
We have some really exciting events coming up at Nashua for students! You will want to make sure your child is at school on the following days! More information will be coming about these fun events!
October 31 - Fall Parties, Parade, and Dance Party!
December 18-19: Nashua Winter Festival! Including a performance from the StoneLion Theatre!
December 20: Winter Student and Staff Talent Showcase
Portrait of a Graduate
Congrats to the students below who were chosen for the September Learner's Mindset Portrait of a Graduate Award! These students were recognized on the announcements this morning and we took a group picture to hang up on our POG bulletin board. Over the next couple days, Nashua staff members will be delivering a POG yard sign to place at their house (see yard signs below)! This yard sign will sit at the front of that house for one month! Once the month ends, Nashua staff members will come and collect the yard signs so that they can be delivered to the October POG winners.
Kindergarten- Makayla S., Kellen C., Pavle J.
1st grade- Annabelle S., Georgia P., Emme R.

Next week we move to our next POG competency - EMPATHY!
Empathy is demonstrated by showing sensitivity, concern, and respect for others. Students will be making intentional decisions to take actions by recognizing the impact of others around them. Nashua will encourage empathy by teaching classroom lessons about empathy, recognizing empathy, and setting individual goals. Empathy can be supported at home by talking about emotions and how our actions impact others.
More information about Empathy is below!

Bus Rider Reminders
If your child is a bus rider, please take a moment to ensure that your child is following these bus rules:
1. No food or candy should be pulled out of student backpacks. In general, students should not be coming to school with candy. While some students bring lunch from home, students should not be pulling food out from their lunchbox. We have some students on the bus with food allergies so this is extremely important.
2. The ipads should not be pulled out of student backpacks.
3. Students need to stay seated the entire bus ride.
4. Students should maintain a voice level 2 on the bus. This means no screaming or yelling. Students should have a casual speaking volume.
Thank you for helping ensure our bus riders are safe on the way to and from Nashua!

NKC Attendance Policy
As we begin a new school year, I wanted to send attendance reminders to ensure your child is at school regularly. It is important that your child attends school on time, every day.
The NKC SCHOOL BOARD POLICY states:
When a child is enrolled in NKC Schools, the North Kansas City Schools Board of Education expects:
1. The student to attend school regularly.
2. Parents/guardians of the student to communicate regularly with the office staff regarding the student’s absences.
3. Every student should strive for 95% or above attendance. This would mean missing no more than 8 days of school in the school year. (State guidelines deem attendance rates of 95% or better as necessary for optimal learning).
OTHER IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE INFORMATION:
1. If your child is not maintaining attendance above 93%, you will be notified immediately. If the attendance keeps dropping, Nashua staff/administration will reach out and ask you to come to the school for a meeting to discuss attendance concerns and complete an attendance contract.
2. If your student’s attendance continues to fall, the school is required by state law to report all instances of educational neglect, including poor school attendance, to Missouri Child Abuse and Neglect hotline.
3. Regular attendance and punctuality help students develop and maintain a good attitude toward school and relate positively toward school achievement. Tardiness and absences can be upsetting for students, disrupting their schedules, requiring readjustment to the class routine, and interfering with learning. Even missing just a couple days here and there can negatively impact a students' learning progression.
4. If your child is going to be absent from school, please call the school’s attendance line at 816-321-5162 by 9:30 a.m. on the day of your child’s absence. If no contact is made by 9:30 a.m., every attempt will be made to reach a parent or emergency contact to verify the reason for the absence to ensure the child’s safety and parent awareness of their child’s whereabouts.
Please make your child's attendance a priority this year. We appreciate your help in ensuring your child is at school on time, every day!
Below is additional information about the importance of your child coming to school every day. Click below to download the flyer.
