Principal's Message
Happy President’s Day Cougar Families,
It has been a very memorable winter sports season. We are Grossmont League Champions in Boys Basketball, Boys Soccer, and Girls Water Polo. Our Competitive Cheer team are CIF Champions in the Co-Ed division and our Girls Wrestling team are CIF Runners Up. Congratulations and thank you to all of our winter coaches and athletes. This week is full of CIF games and matches. Good luck in the playoffs!
Congratulations to Nicole LaBella, Heather Luck, and all of the students and adults that contributed to The Addams Family last Fall. They were recognized by Broadway World San Diego with numerous accolades including Best Costume Design, Best Direction, Best Musical Direction, and Best Ensemble. Congratulations to our Performing Arts Department!
If you know someone who is considering Steele Canyon for next school year, please encourage them to submit their information on the Intent to Enroll Online Application. The deadline is Wednesday, February 22nd and our annual New Student Lottery will be held on Friday, February 24. Families will then be notified of their acceptance status via email.
We hope you get some rest, relaxation, and time with family this three day weekend,

Graduation Gown Donations

SCHS Dynasty Dance Team and Club Groove will be performing! Be sure to come for a fun event!
AIRBANDS
Our SCHS AIRBANDS competition is on Monday, February 27 at 7pm in the gym.
- VIP TABLES are $120/table and seat 8 people. VIP tables go on sale starting Friday, Feb. 17 at 8:20am. Bring cash or checks made payable to “SCHS Airbands,” to Chelsea Yoshinaga in Room F106. Your guests get to enter through the VIP area entrance, sit right up front at the VIP tables with family & friends, and enjoy complimentary coffee & snacks, while watching the competition
- GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETS are $5, can be purchased at the Finance Office starting on Feb. 22. General admission seating will allow guests to watch the competition sitting in the gym bleachers with the student audience.

We are thrilled to be able to give the student airbands groups the opportunity to compete for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place on stage Monday, Feb. 27 in the gym. We will also enjoy special performances from Scratch and his crew, & your very own SCHS Staff. We hope to see you & your family & friends all come out to support your students at this exciting, family friendly, Steele Canyon event!
Color Guard
Congratulations to our Color Guard team at their classification show this past Saturday at Rancho Buena Vista High School. They performed their show, “Whole Wide World” by Mindy Glendhill, beautifully before an audience and earned first place! They ended up in HS A Class (a harder and more competitive division from last year) and this is a great position for our team to be in. Congratulations to our Steele Canyon Winter Guard!
2023 "Give Kids a Smile" Events
The 2023 “Give Kids a Smile” event provides an opportunity for children ages 1-18 to start on the path toward a healthy, beautiful smile. Events will be held on Saturdays, February 25 and March 4, 2023, and provide oral screenings, dental sealants, and fluoride varnish application at no cost, and help kids establish a dental home.
With locations throughout the county, this multi-site event is part of the American Dental Association’s national “Give Kids a Smile” program and is coordinated by the San Diego County Dental Foundation, County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, and First 5 San Diego.
PIQE
Steele Canyon ofrece 2 talleres completamente en español para nuestros padres latinos a las 9:30 a.m. y 6 pm. atraves de Zoom.
Acompaneños a nuestro taller de PIQE Socio Emocional los martes a las 9:30 a.m. donde aprendara estrategias para apoyar a su estudiante con sus emociones, confianza en si mismos y como guiarlos a tomar decisiones responsables.
En el taller PIQE Acceso Auna Educacion Superior a las 6pm aprendera sobre los requisitos de graduacion y de admision a la universidad, ayuda financiera para el colegio/universidad y mas.

Financial Literacy for Leaders
Come on Wednesdays @ 8:30am in room F101 from February 8 through May 31st! Learn everything you need to know about finance! (There is no program on March 29 or April 5.)
Financial Aid Workshops - Still, need to complete your FAFSA?
You have until March 2, 2023 to apply but you should complete it earlier. The earlier you get it done, the more financial aid that is available to you. Don't forget this is a requirement to be eligible for a Cal-Grant and graduation.
Last FAFSA workshop is on Saturday, 2/25. They will be presented by Grossmont College staff. There is a 50-person maximum per session. Students, please RSVP in Naviance under FAFSA!
Attention All Seniors - Planning to Attend Cuyamaca or Grossmont in Fall 2023!
Griffin-Coyote Connection 2023 Fall Workshop is right around the corner.
Griffin-Coyote Connection is a program designed to provide high school seniors with the resources and services they need to smoothly transition from high school to Cuyamaca and Grossmont Colleges. It is a series of three workshops where a team of staff members and counselors will walk you through the enrollment process step by step. You must sign up in Naviance in order to participate.
