Happy Friday
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I appreciate your patience last week with me being out. The kids did great for the substitute and were able to get lots of work completed. Here is a quick update for the week.
NWEA Testing: This week our class will be taking the district wide assessments in reading and math. There was an email sent out from the district explaining the purpose of the test. Our class will test on Thursday and Friday during our Computer Lab and Media time. Please continue to work with your child on using a mouse. The district has bookmarked several websites on your MyCCS page to help you with this task.
PTO Fundraiser: Don't forget that the PTO fundraiser is already underway! We are seeing great results and want to continue to get closer to our school wide goal. There are several ways to participate this week. This is the one of the biggest fundraisers of the year. Our fabulous PTO uses the money raised to help with funding field trips, providing new classroom technology and teaching tools, classroom parties, special convocations and much, much more! Please visit the FDE/PTO webpage for more information.
Reading Logs: Please make sure these come back to school each Monday.

Classroom Update
Reading: We are finishing up our last week of Unit 2, What do families do together? This week we will focus on looking for important details in a story. Using the details, we will work on retelling a story in order. We will also be talking about fairy tales.
Word Work: Our letter of the week is Cc. Students should be able to identify the sound that C makes when at the beginning of a word. Our high frequency word for the week is I. Please cut the blue flashcard out at home and put it in your word baggie so it becomes part of your nightly practice.
Vocabulary/Grammar: Our vocabulary words this week include: feel, sad, happy, surprised, excited & play. Our grammar skill will focus on pronouns.
Writing: We are finishing up our very first book publication on wants and needs. The students are working to write sentences about things they want and things they need. They are then illustrating their book and creating a cover for it. When the books are finished we will do our first Author's Chair so they can share their books with the class.
Math: In Unit 2 we will explore shapes, estimation, patterns, and number recognition (1-20) as well as solving simple number stories.
Social Studies: We are continuing our study of friends and families. We will be starting our first Science unit soon!!!
