Pre-AP Science ~ Mrs. Sanchez and Ms. Marek

This week we will be continuing our exploration of Mission 12 in our research groups. We will continue to explore microgravity and experimental design. As part of our project the student groups will be making tri-fold posters. If you are willing to donate one or more tri-fold posters to our 6th grade science classes, your help would be greatly appreciated!

Accelerated Science ~ Mrs. Irons

This week we will be continuing our unit, “Cutting Off Texas”. Groups are beginning to work on their presentations and may need supplies dependent on the way their group has planned to construct their presentation. We will focus on competition for resources within ecosystems and short- and long- term effects of environmental change. We will have a quiz Friday, September 22.

On Monday, September 18th, students will take their Unit 1 assessment. The test will cover the unit 1 vocabulary and multiplying and dividing decimals and fractions. Please make sure your child is studying at home. They have access to review material in Google Classroom.


Towards the end of the week we will begin working on Unit 2 which covers integer operations (positive and negative numbers). Students will learn how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all positive and negative numbers.

Students will be testing over Unit 1 on Monday. On Tuesday we will be launching Unit 2 over volume and area. Students will have a progress check on Monday, September 25th.

Humanities ~ Mrs. Moore, Ms. Lindamood, Mrs. Strother and Ms. Peden

Pre-Ap students will continue the planning and work phase of their book review blogs. All students will work on analyzing fiction and nonfiction texts in close reading workshop. Students will identify and give examples of limited and unlimited government and prepare for a test on Social Institutions on Monday, September 25.

Global Business and Professional Communication ~ Ms. Tedford and Ms. Owen

We are wrapping up our lessons about Communication in Natural Disasters. Students will be creating their Professional Communications Digital Portfolio using Google Sites. You will be able to see some of the work they did in these lessons on their site. Monday, September 18th we are beginning our Growth Mindset and Presentation Skills Unit. Throughout the unit, students will explore influential people who have demonstrated a growth mindset, and they will create a presentation on this person. Students will be required to choose their topic by Friday, September 22.

  • This week we will be working on our final artworks for our Elements of Art unit and ending the week with our artist statement reflections.

  • Mrs. Beam will be out for a conference on Friday 9/22.

Two more weeks of the fundraiser, please keep sharing it out! We are into making sounds now, and we will be starting to video practice logs this week. Using screencastify students will create beginning and end of the week videos showing their practice.

We will continue our volleyball unit this week in class. Be on the lookout for more team competitions as we move past our skills and drills. Also, don’t forget about our PE Stampede for BISD on September 25 6-7pm at Kerr Middle School football field. There will be a family fun run, vendors, and much more! The middle school with the highest student participation will win $1,000 towards their respective school’s PE class. Come out and help us support STEAM MS!
