SEL UPDATE
Next week we will continue our lessons on curiosity and discuss how to use our curiosity to have creative problem solving skills. When your child is facing a problem, whether with friends, at school, or with something at home, you can encourage creative problem solving by helping them answer the following questions and then coming up with some possible solutions together:
When did the problem start?
How did I notice the problem?
What are some possible causes for the problem?
What have I already tried? Why didn’t that work?
Has this happened before? If so, how did I solve it then?
What happens if I ignore this problem?
Who could possibly help me solve this problem?
Give time for your child to think of their own answers and try your best not to solve the problem for them, rather help guide them into figuring out how to solve the problem on their own. The more problems your child is able to solve, the more confident they will become in their abilities.
