OLVCS Updates
March 5, 2021
Dear Parents,
A major factor in our success so far this school year is the commitment of you, OLVCS parents/guardians, using our COVID-19 symptom checklist and following CDC guidelines consistently. I can't tell you thank you enough.
As we approach Spring Break, I am reaching out with some very positive news from the Department of Health, and the Education Office of the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. That is, as of Tuesday, March 1, 2021, the Order of the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health for Mitigation Relating to Travel is NO LONGER in effect. This means that families who choose to travel outside of PA no longer have to automatically quarantine, once they return. However, we ask that all OLVCS families who are traveling to still practice appropriate public health measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 such as masking, physical distancing, and hand hygiene.
The full Department of Health latest travel guidelines are available at: https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Travelers.aspx
While we have seen a decline in positive cases and COVID related hospitalizations locally, our school's Health and Safety Plan protocols will remain in effect, and we must continue to be diligent about following them.
Thank you again for your continued diligence as it is an important piece to keeping our student, teachers, and staff healthy and keeping our school open.
Taking on the heart of Jesus,
Chad Packer, MEd
Principal, OLVCS

Boys Win in Dubois, Both Teams Head To Johnstown
On Tuesday, the boys team traveled to take on boys teams of Dubois Central Catholic School. As the Crusaders had lost to the Cardinals twice this year already, "it was nice to get an opportunity to play them at full strength and get the win this time around," said Coach Bastardi. The B-team won 31 to 15, with Colin Mikesic leading the Crusaders with 15 points. In the A-game, Charlie Yartz and Chris Warner lead the Crusaders to the win, 41 to 36.
Both the girls and boys teams will be playing in the Diocesan Tournament at Bishop McCort this weekend. Girls play on Saturday, and the boys play on Sunday. Coaches will send game times to parents. All can watch via the NFHS Network. Click on link below to view.
Giving Seniors the Mic
Senior speeches have become a staple at Saint Joseph’s. Each year, the seniors have the opportunity to stand before their peers, faculty, staff, coaches, and family to reflect on their journey at Saint Joseph’s, offer some words of wisdom to the underclassmen, and thank those who made a difference in their lives.
Below is a quote from Camryn Eby's senior speech. Camryn is an OLV alumnus. In the Fall, Camryn will attend Duquesne University where she has been accepted into the five-year Physician Assistant Studies program. She will also run on the cross country and track teams.
