Writing Warm Ups
- This week we began each writing block with a writing warm up. Student watched a Pixar short and wrote, drew, and discussed how it made them feel. All Pixar shorts had lessons to be learned, reflections to be made, and were emotional at times.
- It was interesting and incredible to see how much their social emotional learning has grown over the year. They had some very insightful reflections and genuinely took the time to think about the MESSAGE! Here are two examples of what we watched this week.

Writing-Favorite Foods!
- We continued with our persuasive writing on our favorite foods. As we worked, we discussed the different parts of an essay, hooks, introductions, descriptions, examples and a strong conclusion!
- All essays should be completed by next Wednesday!
Math-Line Plots
- This week students learned how to analyze a line plot.
- We also reviewed what the words "most/least" common, and difference meant.
- We created our own data, line plots and questions. Next we placed them on the Seesaw Blog. Finally, we were assigned one of our friends line plots and answered their questions.
- SEESAW even retweeted us!
- Next week we start Geometry!

Language Arts
- This week we finished our novel study.
- This was a very eye opening book for all of us. We experienced the perspective of two fifth graders (Ravi and Joe) each with very different families/cultures and views on life.
- We watched them become the unfortunate target of one student and watched them talk unkindly about each other (even if it was only in their heads).
- As the chapters went on we saw them grow (maturity wise) and band together in a silent bond!
- We reflected with personal quotes and created a book jacket as our end of novel project.
- ASK US HOW IT ENDED?!?!!?
Shape Summary Story
Picture/Quote the Represent us
In the last chapter Ravi says, " Wining is not always about shining the brightest. Sometimes it's about sharing the light with someone who has been waiting in the shadows all along." For one of our last activities we drew a picture that represented us and put a quote on the back. Our friends had to guess which one was ours.
Social Studies: Native American Projects
- We began our Native American study.
- Students picked a tribe they wanted to research and followed a rubric to make sure they included important facts about the tribe.
- Students then used student CHOICE to show their knowledge!
- Next week students will be making authentic dwellings of their tribes.
Paper Airplanes with a Twist!
- Which plane flew the furthest using more than just PAPER?!?
