Rosenberg Principal Dr. Julia Ramirez Selected as E3 Employee of the Month!
Dr. Ramirez, born in Houston, has been with GISD since 2014. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Houston, her master's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, and her doctorate from Lamar University.
"My favorite part of my job is the opportunity to collaborate with staff, students, parents and the community to provide educational opportunities for students in the best environment possible," Dr. Ramirez said. "So many wonderful things come out of these collaborations, such as the labs at Ball High, the STEAM bus, the Rain Works Art installations and opportunities for students such as field experiences that they might not otherwise have."
Dr. Ramirez says her free time mostly consists of being a chauffeur and one of the biggest fans of her two daughters, who both attend Central Middle School. Her favorite hobby is attending live concerts.
The following comments were included with Dr. Ramirez's nomination:
"Dr. Ramirez has created a campus full of lifelong learners, as well as student leaders to operate a micro society. She shows compassion toward all her students. She is resilient and perseveres through adversity. She is present, leads by example, and checks in with the entire campus."
Congratulations, Dr. Ramirez!

Central Middle School
Central students in Project Lead the Way classes recently chose historic Galveston buildings to research and replicate with a 3D printer. The students studied the building designs and did their best to duplicate them in an online 3D modeling program called TinkerCad. The final product is a 3D print of historic buildings around Galveston Island. Awesome job!

Ball High School
Gavin Van Warren Announced as First Recipient of Mason Nelson Memorial Baseball Scholarship
The Mason Nelson Memorial Fund honors Mason Anthony Nelson, who was a freshman at Ball High School when his life was senselessly taken by a drunk driver. He had just completed his second week of school and was thriving scholastically, athletically, and socially. Mason was especially focused on furthering his baseball skills, character, and faith. Mason knew that sacrifice and commitment were part of baseball and life in general. Mason made time every day to work on his goals and dreams, and every achievement reinforced his dedication.
The decision to award this scholarship to Warren was made based on the input of his coaches and friends. "Gavin exhibits all the traits this award embodies. He puts in the work required to be the best athlete and person. His focus and efforts on the field are matched by his hard work off the field. Gavin pushes himself and others, especially his teammates, to perform at the highest levels."
In addition to providing lessons outside of district athletics, this fund was also established to reward deserving Ball High students who have participated in baseball, for their effort and commitment to pursue post-secondary education. Applications for the $1,000 college scholarship are now open. Please visit Galvestoned foundation.org for more information.
(Pictured: Warren is presented with a check by Mason's father, Reid Nelson, GISD Superintendent Dr. Jerry Gibson, GISD Education Foundation board members, Executive Director of GISD's Education Foundation, Brittany Viegas, Coach Russell Ferrell and more.)
