PTA NEWS FLASH
Indian Knoll Elementary
Letter from the Principal
Happy Fall Y'all Firebirds,
We are extremely excited to have successfully worked through a month of school in the face of a pandemic. It hasn’t been without bumps in the road and lessons along the way, but we are moving forward in a positive fashion. Our administrative staff is committed to continuously improving our daily practices as we progress through uncharted territory. We have had more appreciation and an outpouring of support from this community and cannot tell you how much that means to our entire faculty. We are trying to make this experience as engaging and exciting for our Firebirds as possible while still adhering to all of our safety standards. We will continue to look for ways “outside the box” to provide the same programs, clubs and activities as we move forward. This month our Curriculum Nights are being provided by teachers through an electronic presentation, but if you have any questions we are only a phone call away. Thank you for your trust in us. #IKESKindnessCounts
Mrs. Colleen DeLosh – Grades 3-5
Mrs. Lori Waycaster – Grades K-2
We have had a very busy and exciting first month of school.
Classroom guidance begins this month for all grade levels. We will be utilizing our Speak Up, Be Safe curriculum and by the end of September your child should be able to recite these safety rules:
1. It’s my body.
2. Ask an adult if I’m safe.
3. I have choices (get away, stay away, use my words).
4. Tell someone.
5. It’s never my fault.
For our digital learners we are meeting bi-monthly to participate in social emotional learning lessons. We have enjoyed seeing our digital learners via Teams meetings.
We would like to kindly remind you that school begins at 7:30. If your child is absent from school please notify his/her homeroom teacher in writing. Digital learners are also required to be present and on time.
If you or anyone you know is in need of resources, such as food, clothing, or school supplies please feel free to contact either one of us: email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.

Spotlight on Kindness
This month's warrior for kindness will come as no surprise! This individual has made huge waves not only in our school, but county wide. Nicole Dailey, the creator and moderator of the #CCSD Positivity Vibes Facebook page has redefined kindness for this school year. The quote that "a simple act of caring creates an endless ripple" is well represented by her effort to bring others together to support the employees, faculties, and staff of our schools and operations that are working diligently to give our children the best education while going the extra mile to maintain their safety. Her one act and continuous positivity and encouragement have contributed to countless meals, positive sidewalk chalking, gift cards, snacks, and classroom contributions. To add one extra special element, Nicole is a Firebird parent! How lucky we are to have her as a part of our Firebird family! Thank you, Nicole for setting a new precedence in such an unprecedented time!
Each month, PTA strives to highlight one person who demonstrates incredible acts of kindness! Our hope is that these small acts help to create a snowball effect and encourages acts of kindness big and small!
Help us spread some love by sharing wonderful acts of kindness that you do or experience! Let's celebrate compassion together and inspire each other to pay it forward! Please send pictures or stories of your acts of kindness to email@example.com.

For the 2020-2021 School year, we will also be offering the Spirit Rock for shout-outs on WEEKENDS, HOLIDAYS, and SCHOOL BREAKS! We hope that this will make it easier to provide more opportunities to celebrate our Firebirds!
Spirit Rock Sign-up:
In an effort to make spirit rock sign up as smooth a process as possible, we are continuing our sign-up procedure from last year. Sign-up dates for your special event are listed below:
- August to October dates: released August 7th
- November to February dates: released October 9th
- March to May dates: released February 9th
**Payment will be required at the time of sign up in order to complete your reservation.
***In the event that school is changed over to a digital platform, you will have the option to still paint the rock on the day of your reservation or receive a full refund for the rock rental.
Spirit Rock Painting:
We have had several parents and/ or family members inquire about hiring someone to paint the spirit rock for their special event. We want to make this a little easier by listing some of those individuals who offer these services. This information can be found in the FAQ document attached to the spirit rock email that will be sent out by Mrs. Cerasoli. These include Tay's Paints and Elisha Hyde. Both of these individuals can be found on Facebook. We will be updating our website soon with this new information.
**Please remember that these services are not affiliated with IKES PTA and will require a separate, additional payment to the artist. Before you book any paint services, please be sure you have reserved and paid your rock reservation with IKES PTA.
If you have any questions regarding spirit rock, please contact Jackie at email@example.com.
