Welcome Back Marthasville
We Can't Wait to See You!
Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!
PART 1
Dear Marthasville Students and Families,
Summer is quickly coming to an end and our fantastic custodial staff have been hard at work cleaning the building and campus. We are all ecstatic to get the new school year rolling! Our staff is truly looking forward to not only continuing to build strong relationships with our students and families, but also creating new memories together.
Supply Lists
You will find the link to our school supply list here:
Meet the Teacher
Kindergarten Students: If you have a Kindergartner, you may bring supplies to Meet the Teacher Night on August 19th, from 5:30-7:30. Please park in the front and enter the building through the ramp entrance door (there will be signs). You will exit the building through the Gym Lobby doors. Families will follow your child's last name during these 30 minute time slots: A-G 5:30-6:00 H-M 6:15-6:45 N-Z 7:00-7:30
*All adults must wear a face covering when inside the school.
New Students: You are invited to come walk through the building for a quick tour on 8/19/20 between 12:30-5:30. Adults and students grades 4-6 must wear a face covering. Please bring your supplies on the first in person day of attendance.
Returning students: At this time, due to the mandates for social distancing and cleaning procedures we will not be having a building- wide open house for returning students. Please bring your supplies on the first in person day of attendance.
Teachers will be posting Welcome Back videos and documents prior to the first day of class.
Device Pick Up- TENTATIVE!
K- 5 and New Student Device Pickup for B Cohort Students ONLY
(A Cohort Students will get on the first day, 8/24)
8/17 and 8/18 from 8:00-12:00 or 1:00-5:30.
Please enter the doors through the old entrance by the gym. I will have a sign out front with arrows. You will exit through a separate door to reduce traffic flow.
Your student does NOT have to come with you. All adults need to wear a face cover when they enter the building.
Look for information to be pushed out soon regarding paperwork and insurance for devices.
Appointments can also be made if necessary to find a time that works for your family.
Teacher Assignments
Teacher assignments should be viewable through Parent Portal hopefully very soon.
We are working to finalize class lists according to E-Learning enrollment list, new student enrollment, and transfer requests by August 14th. I will send out a text and email blast, as well as a Facebook Live when teacher names are viewable! I will not be able to make changes to rosters unfortunately.
Since we are starting the year in the Hybrid scenario #3, class for each grade level are broken into cohort group A (Last Names A-K) and group B (Last Names L-Z) according to your OLDEST child's last name. I have gone through each list and made sure that all of your children would be in the same cohort group. If you have an older child in middle and/or school with different last names that might change the cohort for your younger students, please send me an email so I can verify my cohort lists. I have already heard from some of you and appreciate the emails and messages!

Keeping Our Building and Classrooms Clean and Sanitized:
The School District of Washington has gone to great links to ensure proper sanitation and cleaning is occurring multiple times throughout the day, in all areas ranging from classrooms, bathrooms, recess equipment, and many other surfaces and high contact and traffic areas. Our custodial staff will be reviewing the checklist every afternoon. All teaching staff will be trained prior to the first day on the proper way to sanitize surfaces within their learning space. I have also created a flow of traffic through the building during transition times, lunch, recess, and bathrooms that will reduce students passing at the same times. Social distancing decals will be waxed to the floor in the halls and classrooms as well. Face coverings will be worn at all times by staff and students 4th-6th grade. Students in K-3rd are certainly allowed and encouraged to wear face coverings if they feel more safe and comfortable. Please talk to your child about the importance of wearing their face covers during the day. If students are playing at recess or participating in continuous exercise during Physical Education, they do not have to wear their face cover during that time. It is recommended to find a strap or string to keep them from falling to the ground or getting mixed up with someone else's if dropped (I am actually using a pacifier clip to attach to my name tag). It is also a good idea to label face covers. Please see the sample pictures below for ideas!
Health and Sickness Plans:
Students and Staff should be self- screened prior to entering the building. In the event someone displays symptoms upon entering the building, Nurse Annie will follow district protocol and health guidelines to isolate individuals until it has been determined if this is a Covid related illness or something else.
Lunch and Recess:
Students will eat lunch in their classrooms. We have allotted time and safety measures after lunch to continue to have recess while still social distancing. Classes will rotate through different parts of the playground, blacktop, and/or field each week. This will still give our students an opportunity to get fresh air and exercise. Students will follow a path through the cafeteria and back to their rooms for lunch. Marthasville support staff, the counselor, and myself will supervise lunch and recess shifts.
Special Area:
Special Area teachers will be holding class outside when weather permits, or pushing into classroom spaces for instruction.
Classroom Setup:
Teachers are setting up their classrooms to ensure 3-6 feet of social distancing is being followed between tables and desks.
Instruction:
Teachers will be operating and instructing on the Hybrid Yellow #3 Scenario. More information about schedules and instructional minutes will be shared in the coming week.
Water Bottle Fillers Stations:
We are blessed to receive two water bottle filler stations this year! Our current drinking fountains are shut off, but the water bottle fillers will be used for students to fill up their own water bottles by use of a sensor. Please send a labeled water bottle with your child each day.
First Day of Excellence- August 24, 2020 7:45-2:45
Since we are starting Hybrid Yellow #3, students in the A group cohort will report to in person learning on Monday and Tuesday of that week, while B group cohort students will begin their learning virtually using their devices. Wednesday will be virtual learning for everyone at home (teachers report to school every day for teaching). Thursday and Friday, B group cohort students come to school and A group students learn virtually at home.
For those reporting to school on Day 1, our doors open at 7:20 a.m. and learning begins at 7:45 a.m. We dismiss at 2:45 p.m. Stay tuned for more detailed information and a video tutorial about devices, and what to expect the first week of school for instruction and Google Classroom.
Links for the district and school calendar can be found below. A calendar of events will be included in the monthly newsletter as well. Please refer to the main calendar throughout the year for more information.
Transportation and Routines
I need EVERY (1 per household) to take the Afternoon Transportation Survey before August 17th so I can plan the safest and smoothest transition for all students at the end of the day. If I don't get a survey from your family, you will hear from me so I can plan accordingly.

Morning Routine (No Matter Which Scenario):
Car Riders- Please follow the arrows into the upper parking lot and drop off your students at the NEW vestibule entrance doors. We ask that you do not exit the parking lot via the bus lane-please follow the arrows through the lower parking lot and exit there.
Bus Riders- Students riding the bus will exit and walk to the Gym Lobby doors.
Walkers/Bike Riders- Students walking or riding their bikes or scooters will need to enter the building through the ramp side door near the LAL and Music rooms.
Please talk through this new entrance procedure with your child prior to the first day of school. Students will not be able to enter the building before 7:20 a.m. and we ask that they not arrive any sooner than 7:15 so we can ensure social distancing, health, and safety protocols are being followed. We appreciate your cooperation and support!
Afternoon Routine:
Please follow the arrows when entering and exiting the parking lots during student dismissal. It is not safe for vehicles to use the bus lane while students are loading and unloading. Please do not use the bus lanes when exiting the lot. Students will be dismissed at 2:45 p.m. We will release Car Riders to the Gym first. Bus Riders and Walker/Bike Riders will be announced shorty after.
Information regarding Car Rider pickup in the afternoon will be sent out once I have an idea how many parents are choosing this option.
Students must be picked up no later than 3:00 p.m.
This year will be full of unexpected twists and turns, but I am confident we will push through adversity and rise to the challenges that come our way. We appreciate all that our families do to support Marthasville and will work hard to keep our building safe, clean, and our students loved and cared for. If you ever need to reach me, please don't hesitate to email, call, or message me on our Marthasville Facebook page. I am honored and excited to serve you.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and we will see you soon!
Part 2 coming soon....
