Dear Families,
Every year, each public school and school district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school’s report card is designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas. A link to our school’s report card is available here: 2020 Watertown High School Report Card. You can find Watertown High School’s report card in a different language by selecting the language via the following link: School and District Report Cards.
The report card includes multiple measures of a school’s performance – more than just MCAS scores. It represents a new way of looking at school performance, by providing information on student achievement, teacher qualifications, student learning opportunities, and more. Report cards are designed to be useful tools for everyone connected to our school. Families can use the information to have meaningful conversations with us about what the school is doing well and where there is room for improvement. Community and education leaders can use the information to better understand how to support students and our school. The state has created a guide to help in understanding the report card. You can access the guide by clicking on this link: Report Card Quick Facts & Glossary.
You will notice on our report card that:
We are a diverse and inclusive school community, with 37% of our students being students of color and 45.6% of students being identified as high needs.
We have a commitment to progressive discipline and building student relationships that have led to our incredibly low discipline rate
We have a 70.8% growth rate in math MCAS for our 10th grade students.
62% of our students complete advanced level coursework including: AP courses and high level engineering courses
The state has identified us as making, “substantial progress towards our accountability targets.”
To improve student performance in our school, we will:
Increase access to, and enrollment in, advanced level course offerings
Increase enrollment in arts coursework
Investigate how to improve 9th grade outcomes
Improve the percentage of our graduates completing MassCore requirements
We encourage you to become involved in helping us improve our school. We see families as critical partners in the success of our students and school, and we are grateful for your continued support.
If you have questions about our school’s report card, would like to become involved in school improvement activities, or would like to request information about the qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher, please contact Principal Joel Giacobozzi at joel.giacobozzi@watertown.k12.ma.us. To see our district’s report card (Watertown Public Schools, District Report Card) or to search for other schools’ report cards, visit https://reportcards.doe.mass.edu/
Sincerely,
Mr. Joel Giacobozzi
